9850 be overclock voltage during p95

first my specs...9850 be multi @14.5 voltage @ 1.4....gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (rev 1.1)
corsair ddr2 800 @4-4-4-12 2.1v

ok my question is...I've seen & herd of people getting overclocks beyond this with less voltage...it seems I need the 1.4 to stay stable (p95 for several hours)
now I've also noticed when running p95 the voltage in cpuz shows it at 1.488 (100% cpu load)
does this sound too high of voltage... is there anyone out there that can run p95 & see what the voltage is while at 100% load...is it suppose to raise like that or should it stay at 1.4v?? also my max temp is 54* idle temp @34* & voltage drops to 1.4
any help on this would be great
 
sounds like you have the load line calibration turned on.. i just woke up and having a brainfart.. but its called something else on amd systems.. which it rarely ever works correctly.. ill look up what its called on that board though and edit my post when i find it..

normally your load voltage will either go up or down but should never exceed the voltage set in the bios.. also are you running your memory at ddr2 800mhz or higher? if it is higher then 800mhz id say your memory timing is way to tight for the overclock..


hmm guess that board doesnt have it.. only thing i can say then is that your acually setting the voltage to 1.50v.. in the bios in the voltage settings.. at the bottom it should say what the voltage is set at.. under the cpu voltage setting.. that should tell you what it will top out at..
 
memory is set at ddr2800 manually (unganged)...I backed the multi to 14x for a 2.8 clock...backed the voltage to 1.325...thats .25 over stock 1.3.... cpuz shows 1.344 at idle but still jumps to 1.4 when under 100% load on p95 temps on full load are now 49*... I don't know why it does it, would cpuz screen shots help??
 
have you updated the bios on that board?

oh yeah i forgot that the 9850 is a BE so it doesnt matter what the memory's set at.. been messing around with non BE cpu's for a while now totally forgot about the multiplier overclocking.. ill have to talk to one of my friends that owns that board and has overclocked on it and see if he has had the same problems and if he updated the bios or not.. once i can get a hold of him ill post back here..
 
f5 bios.... mainly I was just wondering if anyone else has the voltage changing while on p95... I never noticed it before I usually just have core temp on but I happened to have cpuz on while I was running p95 & noticed the voltage jump.... yeah it's strictly an overclock by multi change
 
yes the voltage should change between load and idle.. but not as drastically as yours is changing.. it should be very minimal.. between .01-.03v not .1+v

thats an insane jump.. i have no clue whats causing it unless its the bios.. mine only chanes from 1.36v to 1.38v between idle and load with it sat at 1.40v but im using a biostar tforce 780g m2+
 
it's stable there & my temps never exceed 50* at load...but it just bugs the hell out of me that it's doing that.... I can't find any way to stop it... I may just have to deal with it
also the more i raise the voltage in bios the more it raises under load, for example if i raise to 1.4v in bios during load it jumps to 1.48
 
I'm using the same board and it does the same thing too. Tried with most of the settings but it still happens. If anyone knows an answer that would be great =)
 
ok ive been talking with my friend.. and ive come to agree with him is that the voltage issue has to do with the board not actually supporting the phenom 9850..

you might want to try the F7 bios as long as it doesnt drop am2+ support at the same time..

what you want is the 2.x revision of that board.. which does support the phenom 9850 but sees 125w @ 3600HT is the limit on that board and the phenom 9850 is a 125w @ 4000HT.. so its probably throwing insane amount of voltage at the cpu to keep it stable even though the cpu isnt using the extra.. aka.. the bios is completely confused on what to do with the 9850..
 
so basically it's new board time or just deal with it ... do think it'd be possible to upgrade the the newer version thu gigabyte??
 
you could try selling the board you have now and buy another one.. or not overclock.. sounds like it will work fine stock.. but the overclock might be pushing the motherboard to far.. or get a heatsink for the pwm's and hope you dont fry the board overclocking.. those are about your only options.. doubt gigabyte would do a trade up for a newer revision.. but you could always try i guess..
