If you can afford it go right ahead. Pricewatch is better now because you can rate the dealers and stray from bad ones. I still don't think $165 is worth the extra cost for a 25% increase. I never said that you were buying it purely for HL2, but the point of buying that card would be to get you through down the road. The 9800 Pro will do just fine and when it STOPS doing okay (even the XT will be suffering at that point) you'll have $165 extra to save up for a new card.

You keep forgetting the cost of HL2. I would have bought that came the day it came out, now I dont have to.

I got a IC7 MAX3, top of the line PC Power&Cooling PSU, 1gig of DDR 500, Raptor, 3.0c, Audigy 2 ZS, 1800FP, Z-680's, MX700, Prometeia mach II, , Lian Li case, why not have the best video card... when everything else (almost) is?

Truthfully though, I had a very fast 9800 Pro. That clocked 480/380 and did over 7k in 3Dmark2003. Have had it since July.. but I got some good gift cards at CompUSA... and didnt have anything to spend it on. So I bought a XT there, with a warranty, and was out of pocket only a tad under $200. If I hadnt of had the gift card, there was no way I would have gotten a XT.

That being said, if I had a slow card, and wanted a fast one.. I would get a XT. For me it was worth the $200. My LCD is 1280x1024, and I play every game with at least 4xAA and always 16xAF.

Nice setup ya got there :) Yea, it was definately worth it for you, and I'm not being sarcastic. For me though, it would not be worth it :) Oh and I think those numbers on my prof. we're incorrect after scanning some other people's scores so I'm going to re-benchmark and re-post. :)

How do you like your Mach II ?

Pretty good so far. They had the wrong CPU clip in my P4 kit though. They said they had a few batches like that. Took 16 days to get here from Denmark  Little annoying, I think they should have at least sent it 3-4 day air.

you won't have anything to worry about.

but fallguy i got anew 9800pro with an 18ich lcd and i play every game at 1280x1024 with 6xaa and no problems at all so does that mean my 150 buck less 9800pro is as good as your xt lol

Except not.

Way to bump a old thread, and lack English skills.

This is about Video cards. and subsequently, I just got a radeon 9800 pro AIW for $243. not sure if i want to keep it though. ill load ut2k3 1280x1024. see how it does. better be higher quality than my defunkt ti 4200 visiontek

lol and i thought ati vs nvida fights were bad. how about these ati vs. ati fights? ;) lol

anyways if your thinking about a 9800XT and have a card like around a g4-Ti4x00 or below, id definately save my money and wait a few months for the new nv420 or r420. :)

it depends on what card you have now, your budget, and timing ;)

Haha, yea now you get to wait online for steam to "deliver" it to you. A CS patch brough the servers to their knees. HL2 is going to destroy them. Good luck playing HL2 the day it comes out if you plan on using steam.
