Hey all.. Long time reader, first time poster.

I am in need of advice. Like many of my fellow american's I am recieving my annual income tax return in a matter of a few weeks. I was planning on buying a 9800xt with part of my tax return blings but after reading the ATI Roadmap for Q204, I am left a bit hesitant on running out to purchase a 9800xt if the new R420 parts are going to be coming out in the spring/summer.

What is an enthusiast to do? Do I give in to my impatient nature, run out and buy a 9800xt right away? Or play the part of the savvy consumer and wait for something better to come over the horizon.

I'm torn :(

Wait

I think the 9800Pro is a much better deal then an XT

If the XT was about 300 bucks then thatd be diffrent

Wait till HL2 and Doom3 are out.

By then the cards will be cheaper, or something new will be out.

And till then, very little out there needs more than a GF4/9500 anyways. (heck I am still happy with how my GF3 plays)

If I were you, I'd hold onto my money.

I was going to, but then I realised that I would never have that much money to spend on a video card, so I just bought a 9800 Pro and I'm totally in love with it.

Lock up the money and wait. Don't give in, just wait until HL2 and D3 come out.

Thanks for all the responses. Into the savings account that money will go :)

Just wait. It's only a couple months out. Hell, just wait for the sake of waiting, by that time, the 9800XT's will probably be lower than there current $400 price tag (depending store).

So what, could you stabily (is that a word) flash the BIOS to a 9800XT and have it perform equally?

You should be able to. Anyone tried this yet?
