9800xt = ? on PCI-e

Well, I could suggest the vapourware X700XT, or an overclocked X700Pro, but there's not really a point as they're quite difficult to get a hold of. You could try an X800GT in the ATi side of things, or a 6600GT on the nVidia court. Or, rip out a little more, and pipe-mod an X800 GTO 2.

9800XT is really old now and basically sucks. The 6600GT and X700 are better than the 9800XT.

So I would go out for the 6600GT best damn buck for your buck. Very imprssive card.

9800XT isn't THAT bad. The 6600GT would probably lose in some things to it (like HL2) since the 9800XT has more ram and can utilize the RAM. Also, the 6600GT is about on par with a 9800Pro, so it should be < to a 9800XT.

Its only because it has 256mb of RAM. Other than that the 6600GT has higher clocks... Same pipes 1 more Vertex pipe... And of course SM3 :p

There are too many good pci-e cards out there that are better than a 9800xt.. It was the top of the line card a few years ago, but has now become a very very very expensive mid-range card that is shadowed by a lot of the new "middle range" cards.

Stick with a x700pro or 6600gt. Hell, even a 6800nu is better than a 9800xt.

6800gt AGP is prolly what I will do so I don't have to upgrade my motherboard.(yet)

Good decision. Fuck equal. The 6800GT will smoke it and leave you smiling. :)

Most of the cards mentioned in this thread are at least as fast as the 9800XT in practically anything. The one you picked is in the ballpark of 2x. :D
