9800xt fan dieing

The fan on my 9800xt is dieing, and thus causing my video card to lock up during games. Is there any suggestions on replacing the stock fan with another fan/heatsink unit. I just want something simple that will work, right now it's not over clocked or anything, and I'm on a budget ;)
 
well, the Zalman cooler works very well from what I've been hearing.

dunno what ur budget is, but that one is pretty cheap IMO.
 
how about you just rma it hehe unless the warrantee is over?
 
It was a free card out of a dell machine.
The card is made by ATI and is just over a year and few months old.
You guys think I should just contact ATI with my serial numbers off the card?
 
I think I fixed it by adding a bit of lub into the fan. I took the fan off of the card, and pull the backing sticker off the fan. I added in a bit of lube. I held it in my hand and blew into the fan and it started spinging just like normal no noise and freely. Put it back together put it back into my video card, and powered it up! No noise, wobble and seem to be runing at full speed! I'll run it for a few days and see how it goes!
 
A good temporary fix for a problem with videocards overheating is to use a standard house fan to blow the air inside the Case of your computer. I have the side of my P.C. open with my fan blowing directly on my 6800 and it works well.
 
my sapphire 9800 pro had a dead fan, and the card soon followed. it was like 3 months past warantee but sapphire replaced it, twice, during that time. the first time they replaced the fan. the second time i got a new card. pretty good deal IMO :)
 
If you do replace the stock cooler at some point, I recommend the zalman vf700-cu. I just put in my machine, and ran a half hour of 3Dtest with ati tool, I was getting 62c under load with my zalman heatpipe cooler (hp80c), and thats down to 53c now and the AS5 hasn't even cured yet.
