Hi guys,

I've done a pretty stupid thing i'll admit, but yeah, i had to try, don't want to use softmodded drivers...
Got an Xpert Vision 9800 SE with samsung memory (has 328 on the chips) 2.8ns?
Did the hardmod with defogger paint, and flashed the bios using flashrom.
At first the device id changed from 4148 to 4e48, but my pc did not like it, so i tried to flash back. no luck... after getting online and getter like 20 odd bioses, and trying to flash them, i've now seen that my device id is 4148 even after flashing with a 9800 Pro bios. Flashrom does bitch about the dID differing, but -f sorts that out, however on reboot, still 4148, so it appears this card is not flashing at all! Also atiflash did tell me the model once, but now it just says UNKNOWN all the time

Could this be a power issue? or coz i'm using bioses off a cd? or is the card simply br0ken?

Can any1 help?

that's the way it is ... just changing the bios will not change your device id

softmod is in most cases un-do-able however hardmods are exactly what they sound like hard-toundo-mods

This is just what to expect when trying stuff like this (soft/hard modding).

I don't mean to be cruel or anything, but your example/story here is the EXACT reason why I'd never buy anything less then the real thing, I'm not really big on buggering up my prized hardware when I could have just spent an extra few bux to get the real thing.

This is the exact same thing that was happening with many 9500NP's out there when people were going for that legendary jump to 9700 speeds.

Most people buy a card for what it is, expecting nothing more. If you DO get more out of it (modding/OC) then great.....but don't get your hopes up about anything, it just hurts more when/if things don't go JUST how you wanted.

Sorry to hear about your situation and all but I really have no sympathy for people who ruin hardware via hard/soft/volt modding.

No hard feelings
