I just installed Doom 3 and am getting white dots that that flash on the screen as I play. They almost look like snowflakes. I have the newest drivers downloaded and have even installed earlier catalyst drivers. Anyone have a fix for this?

sounds like the card to me. usually you will get those when your card is overclocked too far. if you are overclocked, it may be time to back it offa bit. if you are running stock, then you might have a cooling problem, or the card may be damaged in shich case i would suggest an rma if possible.

Well I definitely don't have it overcloaked. It is stock. I run FarCry, Unreal Tournament 2004, etc without any issues at all. They all run flawless with no artifacts or white dots. Just Doom 3 does this. I guess the card could have some dust on it. I will check tonight. I highly doubt the card is bad because it doesn't occur on other games. The overheating issue is something I had thought about but then again why doesn't it do it on other games. How can I check the temperature of the card to see if it is overheating. What is the normal temperature?

i'm having the same prob. i'm not getting the white dots though. i'm getting a lot of tearing. no other game is doing this, but d3. dammit.

I wish I saw this before. I just posted a thread on the same damn thing. Some guy replied and suggested to try running the game with the card OC'd but just under what the ATI Tool overclocks it at. I havent tried this yet but sounds like a good idea.

When I ran Doom 3 without the card OC'd I found that it ran ok.

Same problem here. No snow anywhere else but in DOOM3... maybe a hold over from last years expected holiday release? LOL

Underclocking helped... but I am 15% UNDER stock and still some.

...dunno...

Friend of mine's 9800Pro (not overclocked) was cooked by Doom 3. I think the card is just faulty.

i have a 9800pro 128mb AIW and it runs doom3 fine, i just have fast writes and vpu recover turned off. mine works fine hope that helps.

Wow, glad to know I am not the only one. I find it hard to believe that alot of 9800pro's are just faulty though. Who knows though. Just strange I am having this much problem with Doom 3 only.

Do you have vertical sync turned off?
I read in the tweak guide that it should be turned on to prevent this...

I had some white dots, and here's what I did to fix it -- went to smartgart, turned off 8x AGP (went down to 4x), then I made sure my vpu recover and fast writes were off.

Fixed the problem

Yeah, I had mine overclocked when I was getting the White dots. I always have it overclocked and it only does it on doom3. I un-overclocked it and didnt change anything else and it worked fine. Hmmm.........

Yeah, I think the white dots can be caused by either the smartgart settings or artifacting from overclocking. Try both, see what works.

yeah, is turned off. will turn on and try this when i get home. oh, and i was using res 1024x768 and the game was tearing. lowered to 800x600 and i a lot better. blah.

I had many of the same problems listed here and resolved them all by doing 2 things... Went back to stock on my card and installed the 4.9 beta Cats... The tearing, clipping and white dots are gone. Default clocks fixed the white dots and the 4.9s fixed the tearing and clipping. I am running 1024x768, High Quality with the rig in my sig without issue now.
