9800Pro vs 6600GT

The 6600 GT blows the 9800 Pro out of the water. The 6600 GT is able to crank up the eye candy, and AF has almost no performance hit (on non uber-high resolutions).

have to agree with booya... this was something i had thought about a few months ago. from all i've researched, the 6600gt is the way to go

6600gt is superior speed wise and features wise.

It is an easy slope to slide down...just trying to keep your wallet a bit more full. Also the more memory typically cripples your OC.

true dat. if you need the 256ram... best to skip lunch for a few weeks save the $ and get the 6800gt
Thanks for your suggestions, guys! I really appreciate it...I'm kinda noobish when it comes to video cards...in March, I bought an openbox ati 9550 256mb card for 90 bucks at Circuit City and it sucks so horribly bad...I used it for a while and noticed some improvement over my GeForce2 TI 64mb card, but I've been playing a lot of WoW recently and my 9550 seriously chokes hard...
One thing that I'm curious about, however, is that the 9800Pro is a 256bit card while the 6600GT is a 128bit card...what is the difference? Should I worry about such an issue?

It isn't how many bits you have it is how fast you can move those bits. The RAM on the 6800NU is only 700MHz. The RAM on the 6600GT is 1GHz (min). Even though the 6800NU has double the memory width it can't get the data 2x as fast (only about 1.4x). My order of preference is pixel pipelines --> bus width --> core speed --> mem speed --> amount of mem.
The architecture of the 6600GT is also superior ot that of the 9800pro. The 9700/9800 series was rocking during its time, but the nVidia 6xxxx pounded the snot of them (increase in core speed, pipelines, and efficiency per clock). Just the facts. I think Toms and Anand both have fairly good reviews. I'm pretty sure Toms just had a AGP and PCIe round up (excluding the 7800GTX). Be easy to compare.

If a 32-bit card were to be released that had the performance and featureset in performance of everything today, I'd buy it. It's the performance that's important, not the number of bits.
I currently have a 9800pro...I figure to make only one more video upgrade on this board before i overhaul everything. (because the board is AGP). If we're saying there isn't a big difference between 128 or 256mb of ram, should I go for the 6600GT or the x700pro?
