I'm having a lot of trouble with my 9800pro, it's acting up in really stange ways.

Basically, it doesn't let me use my PS/2 ports when I use it, and when I play games, I get symptons which are usually caused by the core dying, or overclocking. It's all grainy, and I get a bunch of artifacts and weird geometry.

When I use my Radeon 8500LE, my computer works fine.

Also, my hard drive's pins have broken off, I had a lot of stuff on the hard drive and I'm wondering if theres anything I can do to try and fix this problem.

Specs:
Sempron 3100+(K8 core)
Chaintech VNF3-250
512mb Infeneon(pulled from hp)
80GB Samsung
Western Digital 40GB 5200RPM 2mb buffer hard drive
Radeon 8500LE
Raidmax 350w PSU/250W PSU
Random CD/DVD/CD-RW drives(does it matter?)

Aren't you the guy with the Semperon 3100+, that couldn't get it to work for a while? Damn you have bad luck with your computer. I don't see how the 9800 Pro dying could cause your PS/2 ports not to work..are you sure its not your mobo thats dying :(? Could you show a picture of the harddrive with the broken pins?

Try RMAing the 9800 Pro if you know for sure that its the culprit. Try testing the card on a friend's comp or another spare comp and see what happens. However, if the card is dying not much you could do but RMA.
 
Yeah, I'm the guy who couldn't get his sempron working for 3 months.

I can't RMA the 9800pro though, I bought it off someone off ebay for under $200 a little before last christmas.nBack then it was an AWESOME price for a 9800pro.

Too bad now....

I've tried the 9800 in my celery box a while ago, and I noticed artifacting in quicktime movies. Although the PS/2 ports still worked. I thought it was a lack-of-power situation, I was using something lame like a 150w PSU, with three hard drives and a 9800pro.

I don't have a camera, so I'll just describe the problem as best I can with the hard drive.

Two of the rightmost pins are actually broken off, nothing left. I might be able to like, get the IDE cable it was in with the broken pins andtry to use them...Could that work?
 
Check your irq settings, disable irq 10 in your bios and see if that helps.

If you really want your data, find another of the same exact harddrive and switch circutit boards.

Yes. If the drives are the same exact model. The tools involve:

1. Screwdriver.

Thats it.
 
Yes well it's a proprietary screw driver, more often than not but yo ucan get em at tool shops every where I think.

If its hex a very small flathead should work.

Sounds like a gamble. You would have to buy a new harddrive, open it up switch circuitboards and hope and hope everything works. However, your running the risk of messing something up, as harddrives are very delicate I heard and ending up with two ruined harddrives. Is the data that valuable?
 
Not really, just a lot of music I've been collecting for about 4 years...

It'd be pretty hard to find a matching hard drive, since I bought this HD on my 11th birthday, 4 1/2 years ago.
