Hello, First off this is what I have.

Abit nf7-s 1 gig of hyper X 3200
two maxtors on sata in raid 0
Win Xp Home
Athlon Barton 2800+ oc@2250
g force 4 ti 44oo oc @ 310/610
2001 build 330 score 12500
Quake 3 arena demo 1 255fps

Now that I got that out of the way on two the question,
which card is right for this setup price /performance
The 9800pro is like 299.99 @ best buy and the Xt is 500.00
Neither comes with a game Accept that halflife 2 zzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Card and a drivers disc wow big deal!
So they both suck in the software they come with.
I stick to mostly fps like quake Halo and Dues Ex Invisable war
(Runs kind of sluggish)
Also im a theft fan and sometimes c&c Gen

I hope someone can help me in the buying the right card.

Heck if I got the 9800pro i caould still have like 200 for games sweet!!!! But I want the best choice for doom 3 and dues ex/Halo 2 And i don't want to upgrade in the next year and a half or so any help would be cool! Later!

Death within ten paces:

Like i said i bought my ti 4400 when it came out and i really want to see a boost in the games i own as well as wait at least another year two if im lucky.

To me, the 9800 Pro/128MB @ $300 is still a better value than a 9800XT/256MB @ $500. Even if you're playing most games @ 1280x1024 with all of the eye candy turned on and the AA/AF settings maxed out, the performance increase of the 9800XT over the 9800 Pro doesn't justify that 67% price increase.

I thank all who replied and I agree the 9800xt just is to little of a gain for such a big gain in price! But in the end games like Half life 2 and halo2 doom3 will even bring down the mighty Xt I just want to be able to play them fine event if that means only 2x/4x 1024/768

Better to blow about $300 now and get another card sooner IMHO.

XT 412/730, Sapphire Retail $452
Pro 380/680, Sapphire 256MB Retail $339, ATI 128MB Retail $298

(prices and specs from Newegg)

So the XT's core is 8.5% faster & the mem is 7.4% faster.

At these prices I just can't see buying a 9800XT. It's just not enough faster. If you want 256MB, I'd definately go for a 256MB 9800 pro instead of the XT.

very likely you can get your pro to those speeds anyways.

although when i put it mine at xt speeds i see about 13-14% increase in performance which is not enough to justify the overclock so i run at stock.

you may not want to wait long but trust me you will be happy you waited because the next line of video cards is gonna be much much stronger than whats out currently.

Deus Ex invisible war is a bugged piece of smeg, it should run sloppy on ANY hardware. :)

Still I cant wait to play it after I get my new cpu, supposed to be very good, just not excellent (like part one.)

If you can afford it just get the XT as it's that bit faster. *however* I'd now recommend waiting until March-April for the next generation of vid cards, due out BEFORE HL2 and Doom3 apparently. Though I got an XT already. :D

I would hope so :p

9800 pro..

also the XT 128mb BIOS is out so that is nice. my 9800 pro with the XT 128mb BIOS is really feeling good.

Sorry to be a little off-topic, but your 20013dMark score should be a little higher.. my score is below.. with a slower cpu and the same vid card at about same OC.
