9800pro or 5950ultra

9800pro.. havn't u heard? hte 5950 ultra sucks at directx 9.. well it dont in some games but it has problems rendering directx 9... and besides the 9800pro is a great card for around 200 bucks... 175 in most places.. but yeah 9800pro all the way
 
For opengl go 5950u for d3d go 9800 pro, there's no questioning that.

just out of curiosity, if you compared the ATI9800 pro with the nvidia 6800 what would be the choice to go?

...i ask this because i have a friend who insists on saying that the 9800 is compareable to my 6800 ($80 more)

it almost scares me if he was right, the fact that i might have wasted that much money
 
well the 6800 is a little bit faster because its newer tech..but the 9800pro can still hold its own against it..the 6800 has maybe a 5-10 more fps advantage..not anything worth hootnin-an-hollerin over.

And if you overclock it..like I did..mines oc'd alot higher than the 9800XT which will close the gap even more.
 
yeah it will close the gap a bit but really.. with the 6800... u get the gap already :) and you can even widen it with an overclock.. better yet.. unlock the 16 pipes and there goes a big gap :) but yeah the 9800pro is a fine card but if ya got the money get the 6800 nu.. the 5950 shouldn't even be in this comparison because it lacks so much in directx9.. which is pretty much standard today.. but if ya can get the 5950U for around 140 i'd grab it :) but the 9800pro is a better choice....

And yes benchmarks dont play the game, besides a few fps there is nothing a 6800 can not do than the 9800pro can not.

Umm, no. The 6800 is 40-80% better than the 9800 pro.
