Just recently i have been having problems with my Gigabyte Radeon 9800pro 256 grphics card. I have an Epox 8RDA3+ mobo with an Amd XP 3200 processor, everything is running at stock speeds and i just reformatted to xp pro sp1. I installed the lastest video card drivers from Ati's website and the latest Nforce drivers from Nvidia. Anytime i try to run a game or anything graphical my computer crashes. I have tried reflashing my video card bios, from Gigabytes website, but it dosen't help. Is there some sort of incompatability with my graphics card and motherboard? Is this a known issue? Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks in advance.

What drivers are you using ?
including Chipset + all others.

did it work fine before the reformat ?

what's teh complete specs of your machine ?

Thanks for the help... Currently i am using the following drivers:

1. Ati catalyst 4.1 drivers
2. Nvidia Nforce 3.13 chipset drivers
3. Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card drivers
4. Realtek Network card drivers
5. Nvidia network card drivers
6. ViewSonic VG900B monitor drivers
7. Mouse/Keyboard Drivers

The complete specs of my machine are:

Enermax 550watt power supply
Gigabyte Radeon 9800 pro 256 video card
Epox 8RDA3+ Motherboard Nforce 2 Ultra Chipset
AMD XP 3200+ processor
Western Digital 60gig special edition hard drive
Mushkin PC3200 Ram 1gig
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Sound Card
LG 16x DVD Rom Drive
Plextor 48X Burner
Generic Floppy Drive
Lian Li PC6085B Aluminum Case

My computer was working before the reformat, but i had just recently received my power supply, it had experienced a power surge and it stopped working, i sent it back to enermax and they sent it to me and i installed it about a week ago, the computer booted up and i got into windows successfully. I decided to reformat it again and reflash the motherboard bios just to make sure. After i installed windows and downloaded all of my drivers i decided to install a game, when i tried to play it my computer froze and no matter what i do i can't do anything graphically. Does any one have any advice, is this a hardware issue or a driver incompatibility? If anyone has any advice please let me know.

if you get into windows with no graphical errors, chances are your hardware is cool. out of curiosity, in what order did you install your drivers?

i'm not omnicient, but i'd look more towards software: your bios settings, windows drivers, or even what game you are playing. does this happen in every game you try, single and multiplayer? do you have the newest directx installed? how about bios settings: you said you flashed it, are you sure you reconfigured the new bios the way the old one was? how about flashing it back? what is the first video mode set to, pci or agp? make sure everything is where it should.

if you still can't figure out the problem start ripping stuff out, start with the sound card, then cd rom, etc. rip your system down to bare bones, including memory, try 1 stick instead of 2, then swap them to make sure one isnt going bad or something. i doubt you're having a hardware issue... but by removing things out of the equation it may be easier to troubleshoot. i'd look towards software / settings before drawing any conclusions.

also, could you be a bit more specific about the nature of the crashing? is the sound looping when it dies? do you see anything? etc... help me help you :)

not good . not good at all.

but from what i've seen, its probably an error w/ direct x because u'r computer only crashes when you run programs that require direct x.

Are you overclocking the card or your CPU? If so, back everything down to stock and see what happens.

Actaully if you've had a power surge and you have no surge protector then i would say it's likley to be that the 9800 pro's fried
