Ok here is the deal. WoW now makes my card crash about once every 10 seconds - 20 mins if all the eye candy is on. If I crank it down a bit then it gets spastic with the artifacts but doesnt crash. Have to alt tab in and out to fix the artifacts. Now its to the point where they are on the desktop too. Ive already ordered a 7600gt but do you guys have any tips that might make the 9800 work right again? maybe its a software issue or something I missed?
Cooling is some big fat zalman thingy that barely gets warm. Ram sinks too.
 
I wouldn't invest any more time in trying to get that 9800 to work. It sounds like it's on its last leg anyway. You've got a replacement coming
 
If your big arse heatsink isnt making good contact you will get funky artifacts when the thing warms up. Maybe try remounting the heatsink. I have had the same problems with a poorly mounted zalman, or if the fan isnt running.

Edit: Just remembered, you said you had ram sinks. Tall(.5in) size ram sinks may interfere with the large blue zalman heat pipe heatsink. Basically the zalman wont sit right, and it over-heats. The other possibility is that the card isnt sitting properly in the slot because the zalman hits some MB caps. The card will work if partially seated, but will have issues in games. I had these problems a few years back, thanks for making me relive this major pain in the ass. ;)
 
That's exactly how mine died, started artifacting and within a day or two it was dead.

You can, as suggested above, try re-seating the hsf, but it is an older card and it really sounds like it's on it's way out. I think you'll be happy with the 7600gt, good choice.
 
I could kick this thing. Now its decided it wants to work great. Nothing changed. 2 days of crashing and artifacts both ingame and out then voula it magically works after a night of sitting turned off (yeah it got restared and powered down a lot during the crashs since usually it was a hard lock so it didnt just need a restart). Now I have a 99 dollar toy I dont need :( (WoW doesnt take much power to play on a 17inch monitor). Knew I shoulda waited but it was getting to the point where I wanted to kill something small and fluffy so I ordered a card. Bet theres not anything wrong with the card at all, bet its this freaky ol asrock board with its driver driven agp bridge. Ahwell, maybe I can test the 9800pro extensively and sell it.
