Im not sure if this is a problem with just my hardware or if its a known thing with other systems of similar build, but here is my problem.

After installing Lost Coast in the hopes of being able to look at some kickass lighting with HDR, i opened to game to find white lines forming a box on the screen. This is present at the game menu as well as in the actual game play. The white lines are also present where textures should be on some walls, i believe only the walls where HDR is being used. I have tried turning HDR on and off and turning AA on and off but it still does it. As a matter of fact it does it in DoD:S also. I have tried 2 different 9800pros and i am still stuck as to what is causing it. I know that HDR isnt working right because my brother's machine with an x800pro renders it flawlessly. HDR on my machine is, however, none existent.

I tried installing the newest ATI drivers (5.11) but that had no effect. Is this a known thing for 9800s or is somethin else here amiss?

Please help, this is frustrating the the hell out of me

System spec:
Athlon 64 3200+
1GB PC3200 ram
Neo2 Plat
9800 pro
XP pro 32bit

I could be wrong but isn't the 9800pro too old to support HDR and far too slow to be able to run at a good fps even if it could?

Yea, it should work fine.... maybe something is wrong with the card when it comes under heavy load? Try getting the newest drivers.

My 9800 pro does not give me any problems like you describe. Other than the fact that it is too wimpy to run HL2 Lost Coast...

What drivers are you using? I am using Catalyst 5.7 withy mine.

My 9800 pro 256meg plays it fine but slow with hdr .. You may have something else going on there..

I played DOD:S w/ bloom HDR and 4x/8x @ 1024x768..ran flawlessly. Using Cats 5.10...did you try switching the drivers?

I have a very similiar problem.

I have a gig of 333mhz crucial and a 9800xt along with a 2500 barton.

Lost coast wont go for about 5 minutes without locking up/crashing and the ilk.

Also, where there should be textures it rendures black and purple checkered squares instead.

its pretty damn lame.

As i stated in my original post, i am using the 5.11 Cat drivers, i think i had 5.8 or something installed earlier today but i had the same problem.

Mushroom Prince: I also get those black and purple textures on some walls. I have tried 2 different 9800pros, thats the only thing that is confusing me.

I got no updates and my 128mb runs hl2 lost coast and css hl2 and bf2 all on medium settings with no lag i just love my lil 9800 pro. Sadly i sold it and upgraded to a beast.
The 9800 dnt support HDR

Leadtek 7800GTX 256mb Extreme
and well i dnt share much love for my 9800 pro no more

If my X300 can play Lost Coast with HDR, then a 9800pro sure as hell can.

Lost Coast is not a SM3 game. It uses absolutely nothing from SM3. Same as HL2 and DOD:S. They also have nothing to do with OpenEXR HDR.

It seems like a driver/game bug to me.

Idk what kind of steroids your x300 is on, but I can only do 800x600 high settings no AA no HDR and get 30-40fps.

The High Quality HDR use FP16 HDR, wich the 6800, 7800 and X1800 series have.
All SM3.0 cards, unlike the X8x0 SM2.0b cards wich can't use the HIGH HDR in Lost Coast...

uhh... my x850pro runs every thing just fine, 1680x1050 6xaa 16xaf oh hell... heres a screen cap

sorry for the large size..... and yes... its only running at 22fps...in that screen shot... its rendering alot of stuf over a long distance, when playing , its more like 30-35fps most of the time, its still playable... up till you blow up the chopper, then it will crawl a littel if i scale back to 1024x768 it will do better than 50fps most of the time

OP, do you have a different pc you can stick the cards in to verify that the problem is acctually with the card, a pc that isnt exibiting this issue??? my gut feeling is telling me its vid ram overheating, or overheating in general...i used to have a problem with a different game that did something simler to this... dont remeber the game, but it ended up being an app that was running in the background... i think it may have been winamp, but aount have been xfire or AXnetstat one of them had a tendency to croupt textures while i was in the game... you might want to try running as littel as possible just to get rid of that possibility, ctrl-alt-del and kill every process you can includeing explorer and see where it gets you (becarefull of killing to many svchost.exe's some of them can go but if you kill the wrong one the pc will force reboot...)

thore

yeah i have another PC i can try it out on. I know it cant be overheating because my PC runs very chilly :O)

You guys and short termed memory :(
nVidia's 6x00 serie renders HDR via. SM3.0 16bit floating point in "Lost Coast", where as ATI's X800 series uses the less demanding(and less precise) SM2.0 16bit integer
The X1800 seris are ATI's first cards that have 16bit floating point

Terra - If you don't belive me just ask Brent Justice...or Valve :p

Not it doesn't have SM3 16 Floating point OTHERWISE it wouldn't have anti-aliasing for 6800 series cards which is a HARDWARE limitiation.

Valve even stated they have to get rid of the prefered 16fp HDR to maximize everyone getting it.

I think it is because those card's do not support Shader Model 3.0
gave me a laugh there  . all ATI cards prior to x1xxx series do not support shader 3.0. So, yea it is not the problem. It is weird since I have just tried hl2 los coast on my second rig with athlon xp 2800+ 512mb ddr400 9800pro 128mb on cat 5.11b, no problmes just a bit choppy.

Well, you saying that all ATI cards released before the x1s00 series will not run hl2 lcin HDR? How come mine does?

my AIW 9800 ran Lost Coast just fine with HDR (not like was using crazy settings)

can't remember which cats i was using, i think 5.11 ot 5.10

You don't seem to have any idea what you're talking about. Lost Coast DOES NOT use SM3 or FP16 HDR!

FarCry does, SC:CT does, not Lost Coast.

HL2 does NOT use SM3.0 at all. Even ATI's 9600 can run HDR in HL2, although its probably not playable.

i had problems with DOD:S and farcry with blocking and stuff with the lates ati driver. i went back to 4.12 and it works great now. just have to try the hdr thing.
