I just got the opportunity to get a 9800pro 256 cheap... the 128 i'm getting is probably easy to OC to XT speeds... what i'm wondering is this.... i have a 2005FPW and will be playing at native res.... which will be a better card... a 9800XT 128 or a 9800pro 256 for playing at high res. I'm willing to OC the 256 but i doubt itll OC as much

Hmm isnt that Very Hi res monitor

Well it depends on the games you will be playing

what games you plan on playing?

Doom 3, HL2, BF:V,

battlefield 2 when it comes out i'm sure....

i dont upgrade alot so this card will last me... what do you guys think?

Go for the 256mb card, you might even be able to flash it to a 9800xt 256, and the ram will reduce hitching by a lot considering how large textures are getting.

Then again you can also look into other options such as the geforce 6800 NU, though this is the ati section.

Im not really up to dat on monitors but isnt that one like 1900x1200

Settings as well 256Mb will help at high resolutions asumming the card itself can cope

the 256mb pro's typically have DDR2, so it wont be flashable to an XT. for the money, i think you should go for a 6600GT, its faster.

2005FPW is 1680x1050, just got one myself. HL2+9800Pro is actually not too bad at that resolution, but Doom3 will make it suffer... 6600GT would be a better choice but even that won't give you high fps at 16x10 res. For decent fps + eyecandy at 1680x1050 you'll need an X800/850 or 6800 series card w/ 256MB, plus a CPU to match it.

Doom 3 does not suffer on my radeon 9800 pro 256mb, but then again, in my opinion the game does not need anymore than 35fps (at 1600x1200)
Also the aspect ratio may change things up

Only tried Doom3 with 9800Pro 128MB, and had problems with smooth gameplay in action scenes at 1280x1024 with HQ settings... 256 MB may improve performance of course. Doom3 does not support widescreen resolutions, so the image will be somewhat morphed as well.
