Asus P5K Deluxe
E8400 @ 4.05
9800GX2 @ Stock
4 gig G.Skill @ 900mhz (5-5-5-15)

First runs...

3dMark06 - 17,765

Crysis @ 1920 x 1080 - No AA - All High - 45.57 Avg. FPS

In Crysis this is a 60% increase at those settings coming from a 8800GTX @ 640/1600/2100

Screenshots, more benches, and overclocking to come soon!!!!

wow! i got a similar system and that increase in FPS in crysis is pretty damn sweet....i'm seriously thinking of getting one of these cards.

can SLI be enabled and disabled without a restart of windows? i ask because I need multiple monitors for doing graphics work in windows

Set crysis to 8x AA.
I want to know how low it will drop.

@1360x768 i get around 42fps. (my own custom ultra settings) With 8x AA, it drops to 25fps.

So very high settings and what resolution? That one you listed doesnt exist in the benchmark tool

Probably cause you may not have a 16:9 display. (I'm on a 32inch HDTV/monitor)
I would imagine 1280x1024 would be pretty comperable.

Well overclocked @ 700/1800/2200 here are my results:

I have found out that the 9800GX2, drivers, crysis are not working together. After some research, other people are having the same issue. Hopefully some new drivers will fix it. As right now at 1280 x 1024, high settings, 2AA - I only get 20 FPS Avg.

But the good news is - scores are alot better. 3DMark doesnt show as good as an increase as the games do...

3dMark06 - 18,175

Crysis - 1920 x 1080 - High Settings - No AA - 52.50 - Over 80% faster than my overclocked 8800GTX

Crysis - 1280 x 1024 - High Settings - No AA - 72.16

Crysis - 1280 x 1024 - Very High Settings - No AA - 44.91

Crysis - 1280 x 1024 - Very High Settings - No AA - 44.91

WOW, that is not promising at all.
no way thats just bad drivers..... that is a MASSIVE drop from high to very high, it doesnt make sense.

hmm.....
if I paste a copy of my .cfg, could you run the bench with the settings? :)

change r_UseEdgeAA to '0' when turning on AA, or it wont work. still playing with a few settings, but thats great for now.
thanks!

EDIT: you can ignore removing the vsync command. crysis automatically turns it off when demoing.

Well the last overclock didnt prove much advantage, some loss in Crysis.

9800GX2 @ 725/1825/2300

3dMark - 18,201
Crysis - 1920 x 1080 - No AA - High Settings - 51.27 FPS Avg.

So when running this .cfg, do I just edit my .cfg for the benchmark and add this?

And when will I change the r_UseEdgeAA? Is that in the .cfg also?

Never messed with the .cfg, where is it located?

If I hear back from ya soon, Ill do it tonight, otherwise it will be sometime tomorrow.

oh its totally easy.
make a new notepad file and name it 'autoexec.cfg'
copy all those settings to it, and the save it to 'X:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis' (X being the drive you installed to)

the autoexec, auto executes when you start the game, so it overrides any settings in the games. which is why you have to change r_edgeaa=0, when enabling AA. (EdgeAA does not work with real AA enabled and vice versa)

BTW, you should see a big difference in the visuals.

When will I enter that r_edgeaa? Just start the game and enter it? As the benchmark tool doesnt allow you to enter that stuff?

it one of the lines i pasted from the cfg.
just look for it and change the variable to '0' instead of '1'.
1 is ON, 0 is OFF. set it to '0' when you are ready to turn on AA. (save the file before starting, of course)

Thanks, Ill try it now...

You didnt mention what resolution and AA. Since the 9800GX2 has the AA bug/problem, I will run it at 1280 x 1024 and 1920 x 1080.

Seems the CPU is holding it back pretty good. I wish the Q9450 would come out soon!!!

OC'd the CPU to 4200 from 4050.
Went back to the 700/1800/2200 GPU clocks...

That custom .cfg was rough on the computer.

With settings set to High, 1280 x 1024 - 25.17 FPS Avg.

What do you get when running it? What all is special in that .cfg?

Wow. I'm not sure what to say...
I get 42.78 fps at the comparable resolution of 1360x768.

The settings do.... alot of stuff. Essentually all the DX10 Very High effects, plus a few nit picky things I found and enabled myself. (like the vegetation draw distance, SSAO effects{ambient occlusion/richer shadows and color} and no texture streaming)

But yeah, thats incredible. There has got to be something wrong here. That makes no sense at all.
Something is really, REALLY wrong.

I wonder if its relating the AA bug. I know Very High in Crysis, or any AA pretty much kills a 9800GX2 at the moment. Most are saying it is a driver bug, and I am pretty sure it is in the release notes for the latest 9800 series drivers.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help. When updated drivers come, I will re-test your .cfg and post the results or PM them to ya!

yeah, thats disappointing. hopefully the newer drivers fix it.
btw, keep that cfg and play with it, or make your own! i have found the customization of the crytek2 engine is almost more fun to play with, than the actual game itself. lol

but anyway, i would spend all night here telling you what all those settings do, so check out this chart that lays out the most specific cvars and what their settings are at whatever setting is set in the options.

tweakguides has a good list as well. (a bit more specific in the cvar descriptions, so you may want to go here first.)

good luck!

Thanks, Ill look through those and mess around with it, maybe I can figure out what is causing the low FPS.

And now that I think of it, and other people have brought it up, what version of crysis are you on?

I haven't updated to 1.2 yet, I will be doing that tonight. And installing SP1 for Vista.

I'm on 1.2
I got a 5 fps avg increase going from 1.0 to 1.1. 1.2 gave a small increase (.3-.5)
Win XP SP2

In Crysis TimeDemo I am getting an average of 37 @ 1920x1200 High - 600 / 1500 / 2000 with an E6300 @ 3.05Ghz. Since I haven't done any overclocking those scores look reasonable to me.

19300 Vista 3dmark06 score
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=7223330
(about 1100 points higher then my 2 GTX's at 621/1600/2100)
Seems my SM2.0 score is lower then others here. I wonder why?

Im going to play with Crysis tonight and see what kind of scores I get. I have the equiv of a Q9450 @ 3.72 ghz, so I am hoping to get some decent scores. Might even look into reinstalling vista, as I put this card in after having other cards in and it might be messing with my scores.

also I have had this thing up to 790/1975/2300 for benchmarking purposes :)

decent card. had quad sli until i swapped out 780i for x48. sold 1. trying to sell other. have 2x 4870 coming from newegg monday. looks like goodbye to nvidia for awhile. tried the gx2 on 3 different systems and couldnt get tf2 stable. all other games good, but as tf2 is my favorite, have to dump them.

Did the card crash in TF2? What sort of instability did the system suffer (random fps drop etc?)

Does seem to like Crysis.

Wow, all I can say is this guys CPU must be amazing. I have the same videocard, clocked higher and these are my results...

Min FPS: 27.06 at frame 159, Max FPS: 88.41 at frame 94
Average Tri/Sec: -50153384, Tri/Frame: -913651
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -1.00
TimeDemo Play Ended, (3 Runs Performed)

6/27/2008 10:46:19 PM - Vista

Run #1- DX9 1280x1024 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 54.445

Only difference is the CPU, so 700mhz more = 30+ more FPS. Amazing... Unless he has 2 9800 GX2's....

actually I call BS, looking at his GPU-Z, it says SLI is disabled, and that would mean he was only running on 1 of the 2 GPU's. Theres no way 700 mhz makes that kind of difference. Im not going to score 30 FPS more then someone running a 3 ghz quad core, so its gotta be BS.
