The other week I got my second 9800 in the mail and eagerly installed it in my case. I was very happy with my single card performance and couldn't wait to see what my first SLi setup would bring me. Well, I found out; a bunch of frustration.
The first thing I noticed was that i couldn't overclock my cards. With both cards installed no overclocking program could detect my clocks. All is well with just one card installed but no go with 2. I read all about this on google and try everything to fix it. Not only does it not detect my clocks, it shows the stock clocks are extremely lower than what they're suppposed to be. I finally give up on this problem because I'm ready to game instead of read on google all night.
I took out a card tonight just to see my performance and to my surprise I was getting better framerates with just one card. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? Anything that you've tried or heard of?

Specs.
680i Sli
2x 9800gtx+
c2d 3.4
4gb ddr2800
580wPSU
350wPSU dedicated to Graphics

What resolution are you gaming at? It sound like the card itself (2nd one) may be bad...

Some games are just not designed for SLI in mind, basically, all older games. Some may work with it well and some actually have worse performance, which for older games is not uncommon. You can go into the 3d settings in the Nvidia control panel and disable SLI for the games you have issues with.

I wonder if possibly you are seeing 2d mode clock speeds? Just an idea, I have no sli experience, I just know that 2d mode clocks are way lower.

What games have you been having problems with? Also for the hell of it try running it on your 580w psu and just see what happens maybe? Good luck.
