Just got my sapphire today. Tried running it in my old box but got an error beep indicating video. Adjusted seating all that. Im hoping I didnt get a bunk card. Could the power connector have something to do with it? I wiggled it around and tried a few different lines to no avail. BTW I got this thing retail for 199 from newegg. They gave me $30 back because it didnt have the games with it they had advertised hehe. Anyone have similiar problems with this card before??

Maybe a bios reset?

I just ordered a 9800pro also. I have a K7S5A mobo which I hear has problems with the AGP 4x, and needs to stay at 2x to work properly with newer vid cards.

Read this:

I received my card and right away noticed that it doesn't have Samsung 2.8ns ram but it does have the Hynix 2.8ns ram which is rated for the same speed so I guess just as good. The problem is that when I installed the card and booted up my computer there was one long beep then two short beeps and then nothing. After doing some research I found that this is a common problem with ATI cards. The only way to get the card to work is to turn on the computer with the power to the card unplugged and then plug it in right when the computer starts. Only problem is that you have to repeat this every time you start the computer. If I can't find a fix this card is going back.

wow glad the sapphire 9800pro i got with Hynix 2.8ns RAM has been a smooth install and works great. my MB is an asus with 4x agp.

Sure you have enough juice to power the ATI card? You will get beeps or sporatic reboots if not enough juice.

Need at least 350W PS.

Thanks for the gem of knowledge there guy.

But anyways, yes I have enough power for it. I have an antec 350 watt.

no prob dude. I liked all your info (old box) you provided on the issue at hand =-] can you try the card in another system or try booting in your current one with just the mobo plugged in to see if your other accessories are milking the power a bit too much? I have read that you should not put the vid cards on a power strand that HD's are on due to fluctuations in power draws that vid cards have. I did have a friend with a 9800pro who RMA's his HD and trouble shooted all kinds of things and once he moved the power connecter off the vid cards power strand bundle he never had trouble again. Now some can have it work but it does seem to be an issue in sometimes.

Well I didn't have another system to try this card out on. So instead of giving up and rma it, I took it to the local pc shop to see if they would check it out for me. Guy was pretty cool, stuck it in a system he was working on and it worked fine, didn't even charge me. Though I gave him the copy of Tomb Raider that came with card for good measure. Im wondering if anyone here knows about this?? My mobo is an Abit KT7a with an athlon 1.33 @1.53. Purely a multiplier oc so I know it not the bus speed thats preventing this card from running. PSU is an antec 350w so I should be good to go there too. Is there a compatibility prob with this combo?

did you try disconnecting everything from the mobo/power supply but the vid card to see if it will show any output? you could do that and if it still doesnt work reset your cmos and try again. Just gotta go through process of elimination to weed it down to somthing specific in your system since you know the card works.

try to run it without the power connector .... it should give you a message to connect the power dongle ... if you can't even see this, the card is a dud ...

I've never actually seen the dongle message, but I have forgotten to plug in the extra power connector several times on different machines and they all just give beeps.

I would probably bet the card has an issue with that mobo. Could be an 8x/4x problem. I cant remember what AGP slot that mobo has.

It has a 4x agp. Since it won't even POST new 4in1 drivers aren't going to make a difference. But it did work in a different box, so I'm thinking Ill just wait till my p4 box is done to use it. That sux tho having a 9800 pro laying around and doing nothing :(
