9800 pro vs 9600XT

Assuming these could be had for the same $, what is the better choice?
 
This has been talked about dozens of times: The 9800 Pro...8 pipelines vs 4 pipelines = large difference.
 
9800Pro, no question there. Has 256bit memory, and 8pipes.
9600XT is 128bit, and has "only" 4pipes.

so out of curiosity, why the similarity in price? Shouldn't the 9600 be proportionally less? Is there something about the XT's architecture that would make it more valuable than a regular pro?

And while this is off topic, what about 9800 pro vs fx5900? It's my understanding that ATI pretty much owned nvidia with the last gen of cards. Is that thinking correct?
 
Yes, it is strange that the price of 9600XT is same as 9800Pro's. Dunno where's the catch. 9800Pro is much better.

And yes, it ATi pretty much did own FX series. Though FX's are still good cards (5900, 5950) in games, that dont support DX9. 9800Pro, again, ownz whole FX series.
 
ATi's last generation did definately win out over the FX series. No doubt there. The 9800Pro is an older design than the 9600XT, but the 9800Pro is the superior card. Plain and simple. Although for the price of a 9800Pro or just a bit more you could get a 6600GT that would definatley be faster.
