I'm just wondering, what should I go with. I have 130ish to spend, stuck on AGP (can't afford to upgrade everything right now).
Im using a geforce 2 in this box right now.
I was thinking, pick up a 9800 Pro for 80 bucks on the forums, but then I was like, hmmm, maybe a 6600 GT would be better.

What do you guys reccomend?

yeah go with the 6600gt. if your gonna be playing dod:s it can handle hdr @1024x768 with 2x aa on high settings.

I have a 6600GT and an AMD Athlon XP 2400, I don't think the card bottlenecked. Runs em all like a champ.

9800 Pro :)D Come on, someone had to say it!)

Seriously, the 6600GT. Even if your hardware might bottleneck it remember that the PCI Express version is just as fast as the AGP version.

and the 6600 chipset will/should have a higher resale value when you do want to upgrade.

just throwing in one more reason to go 6600.

Well, yeah, of course it's going to be better on Doom III. All the other benchmarks show the 9800 pro and 6600GT with in a few frames of eachother. It's hardly "blown away". You should go with the 6600GT as it's a smidgen faster for the same money, but unless you're playing some super optomized Nvidia game like Doom III, you will hardly ever notice a differnce bettween the two cards. And upgrading from a 9800 pro to a 6600GT would just be stupid.

Maybe you should read the rest of that review...the 6600GT is considerably faster than a 9800pro in just about every game...and the newer the game, the more of an asswhooping the 9800pro takes...

6600GT by a mile...

Reading this is good news for me: I just ordered a 6600gt to upgrade my 9600xt :)

Speaking of which, don't you sometimes wish they would come up with some sort of more general naming scheme? I mean, what kind of crazy world is this when a 7800 rocks but an 8000 sucks!?!?

well thats because they're two different companies, and now the naming scheme is a little more different, x1800 vs 7800.
