I'm searching around for this and decided to out right ask. I have an artic silencer rev 3 and my temps were only fine on the first day, now the thing get too hot, I'm going to try and restore the fan today and I thought about removing my shim.
When I took off the unit today I wasn't happy about the contact I saw. It looked like chunky ice cream, not a flat surface thats disturbed by the silk screening.
I forgot to add that I took a Add in blank and put it across the deck and held it up to the light, I could see there is a tiny gap that is created by the shim, I know this was a big issue I just never paid attention to the instructions back then.
So the question is, how to I remove the shim the safest way? i don't wont to ruin my card obviously .
