9800 Pro problem

Ok, here's the problem, this all started 2 days ago. I have a 9800 pro radeon (128mb) and that 3d cave screen saver. The screen saver was on a vertical stripe lines came up messing up the whole screen and the whole 3d was messed up. So i updated drivers, and reinstalled directx 9.0c. Rebooted, same thing happened after an hour. it would come right away if i put on a hardcore 3d gaem (hl2, swat 4). So i find out it's a hardware problem (ive had the card for 4 years, never happened before). So I'm thinking the fans are messed up. Take the comp in the garage and I hit it up with pressured air. Take all dust out, check fans, and check all connections. This stopped the broblem for couple hours but the pixeled vertical stripes came back. So i take the damn graphic card out, goto the garage, take the heatsink out, put a new heatsink coat of layer, put the fan back, check for short circuits, and run it again. It went fine for a day but now, after 3 hrs of intense 3d graphics, those stripes come back.

Is my card really dying? Did anyone have that same problem before? Would a custom fan on the card help out? I have 2 case fans, 1 cpu fan, and the card's stock one. I don't really wanna buy a new card, this one's been doing good to me since it first came out.

what color are the stripes?

Does the computer lock up after they appear?

Does it CTD after lines appear?
 
Get a copy of ATITool and do some underclocking. Corruption which looks like stripes tends to be bad RAM. Underclock the GPU and the RAM individually and see if one or the other fixes the problem. If it's the RAM, there's probably nothing you can do about it. If it's the GPU, then you may be able to cool your way out of it but I wouldn't hold your breath.
