9800 Pro overclocking

Ok, so I just recently aquired three 9800 Pro video cards. I had an extra hard drive and traded for them with a guy at work. One of them is an R360 core which can go to XT speeds with the hynix chips. The other two are just regular R350 cores. I'm wondering if I need an Arctic Silencer to overclock these cards or if the stock HSFs will do fine. Specifically to get the R360 to XT speeds.

One thing that I've been looking at is. The 9800XT although having better clockspeeds, has less vertex pipelines and is a much lower vertex operations than the pro model.
 
It's an extremely good idea to get aftermarket cooling for the r350s and r360s. Even if they're not overclocked many have the habbit of artifacting because the heatsink is just too small for the amount of heat it gives off.
 
I've been overclocking my 9800 Pro today. It's a built-by-ATi card. I took off the stock heatsink and put on a VGA Silencer. It seems to do better. Also, this is an R360 core. I can tell because I say the marking on the core when I took of the stock heatsink. I am able to get to xt speeds, but I don't yet know if it's stable. Hope this is of some use.
 
Looks like I might buy 2 Arctic Silencers over time. This will be some interesting fun.
 
Also check out THIS guide on how to flash your R360 core 9800 Pro to an XT. I'm going to try it tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.
 
Was able to flash successfully to 9800XT (even with 128MB card)

I can see the performance improvement. Nothing major, but still nice to have a 9800xt.
 
At the same clockspeed, I noticed a small percentage increase in performance flashing my Pro to an XT. Bios takes advantage of the better R360 core.

Best I hit was somewhere between 420 and 430 (with AtiTool), but then again I was using a "silent" heatpipe cooler... and it ran HOT.
 
So noone has any idea for a good cooler for these cards? I want to overclock on air as much as I can for fun. Especially since I have 3 of these cards just sitting here. One being the R360 and 2 being R350

The only thing is is that I'm looking to purchase from Directron.com because I work there, and I have a discount.
 
I have a Sapphire 9800 Pro. Stock HSF and I added RAM sinks. FInal OC result: 440/800 :)
 
Well, I eventually bought the Arctic Silencer and Copper Ramsinks for the R360. Eventually I'll either try a different cooler on an R350 or do the same setup and post my results.
