By the end of July, I plan on upgrading my computer to this

P4C 3ghz ($203 retail)
Asus P4P800-E Deluxe ($112)
512mb of PC3200 ($88)

I currently have this

Amd 1600+
Abit KG7-Raid
256mb PC2100
Leadtek Ti4200 128mb.

I'm pretty set on the above mentioned upgrades, unless you can convice me why not to and what to upgrade to for the same price. I'll be selling the current computer I have to my little cousin (im keeping that video card as a backup though) so I'll make a little money off of it.

Now the question comes down to the video card which one to get? I can afford the 6800 regular but i dont know if I can justify the costs. I cant play any game over 1280x1024 simply because of my LCD screen so dont worry about any higher resolutions and 1024x768 is the lowest ill ever go in a game. I would like a card that will last me 2 generations since that is usually how I upgrade my cards. I went from a TNT2 Ultra to a Geforce2 to a Ti4200. I always skip a generation. So which one will I end up getting more bang for my buck for? I will be playing Doom3 and HL2, and I guess Far Cry if I got the 6800 since it comes with it. I usually dont use AA or AF that much as I dont care to look at the edges of objects to see if there are jaggies or not, its not of big importance to me. As long as the game as a whole looks good thats all I care about and if its playable. My most demading games right now is BF:V and UT2004.

I would gladly appreciate your opinions.

I'd go with the 6800. It's faster than a 9800XT and costs less. You can find it for about $260-300. If I were you, I'd wait for a coupon or discount on it, then jump on it. You won't have any driver issues if you stick to an nVidia card, either.

You can save a little bit of money if you get an A64 2800+ CPU and an AOpen AK86-L motherboard. If you're not gonna do a lot of encoding (makin MP3s, ripping DVDs, etc.) then it'll be good, because it's nearly as fast in games.

I just picked up a PNY 6800 128mb for $299 at Compusa. You should be able to check online to see if they have one instock in your area. Though, that didn't keep me from being there 30minutes waiting. A tip, as for someone to check upgrade lock-up if they have any.

I'm going to just stick with this card and I'm sure I'll be able to play Doom3 fine, and I'll upgrade again in a year when the newer cards are out. Also, this card should be 30% faster most the time over a 9800XT, only drawback is 128mb of ram, but it's not like you'll be playing 1600*1200 with 4xAA most the time anyways.

I can't wait to see if the dual display features work a lot better than did with my ATI 9700pro.

Timothy just to let you know Nvidias Twinview is pretty decent. I liked it when I used it on my Ti4200. I just didnt use it that much so I just unhooked my other monitor.
