Just ordered the Sapphire 9800 Pro from newegg for $224, weet!

I've researched it and I know how well it performs, but I still love to hear stories about its greatness.

Those of you who have one, share your love!

I just bought a Built by ATI 9800 pro on Tuesday and my god, this thing flies...I can use aa and af now! yay! :p (Upgraded from a Ti4600)

I got mine last week, upgraded from a broken down 64mb Asus GF2MX 400, all I can say is....OH MY GOD! I had no clue as to what I was missing!! Hopefully this card will last me a good year to year and a half. My trusty gf2 lasted me 2.5 years!

Ordered my 9800pro too. I only wish I would have waited a few days so I could have gotten it retail.

Pat your self on the back for not buying the craptabulous FX Geflop and getting the real bargin ENJOY:p

FanATIcs. Need I say more?
Being specific, I've taken the middle road as to which higher-end ATI or NVIDIA card to recommend - and it all boils down to which advantage you do want more of. I'd pick NVIDIA for its better performance with 'legacy' games with some DX9 performance, while I'd pick ATI for its superior IQ (Image Quality) for a given framerate level.

And let's not let this thread evolve into yet another "ATI versus NVIDIA" fanboy war.

name some legacy games you cant run on ATi plz!.. dont tell me wolf 3d.. heck even that runs!

Same old shiiit from the nv boys always harping on about driver probz:rolleyes: Have you had a look in nv news driver forums lately;)

I just got my 9800Pro.

I'm a whore. I go wherever the best value is. This time I did the research and the best value for me was the 9800Pro. In about 2 years or so when I upgrade again I will check around again. Maybe it will be Nvidia next time, maybe ATI again. Competition is good :) Groovy, yay Capitolism.

bought mine for 229 from them. shipped that day. checked the next day to get one for someone else and its 224. doh.

this card is teh win. highly reccomended. it does everything it is supposed to do. just make sure you have a solid power supply and use something like driver cleaner to make sure you start from scratch after you remove your old drivers via the uninstall.

enjoi

I'm not entirely concerned with cleaning out drivers because the ones I use now are already Catalyst 4.1.

I bought an ati 9800 pro from newegg about a month ago. I'm selling this entire system and replacing it with a sapphire 9800 pro for $224 - :D

Oh, what I meant is that the ATI cards run legacy (pre-DX8) games a bit more sluggishly than comparably priced NVIDIA cards do.

And I should have clarified my last post: Keep in mind that even the slowest of these mid-to-high-end ATI and NVIDIA cards are more than adequate in overall performance for legacy and current games.

Ordering my AIW 9800PRO on wednesday, seems like the best card at the moment for the $340 price, the tvtuner sounds awesome, lots of features over my old leadtek tvtuner, plus better gfx than my gf4 ti4400, i cant wait!!!

And the same old OMG ATI PWNZ YUR FX bs from the ATI fanboy club. Is it really THAT hard to admit the 5900NU is a damn good deal? Especially since it is $60 cheaper than the 9800 Pro. And as far as driver problems, ATI can't get a 4 year old game working correctly. Nuff said.

Actually, the latest (and current) drivers from both ATI and NVIDIA have problems - some of which are serious enough to cause some games, both old and new, to not work correctly. In fact, the current latest driver versions from both chipmakers are significantly slower in games than some earlier driver versions are.

My $224 9800p will be here today! this will be my first non-nvidia card since a s3 virge & voodoo2 addon. gone from tnt > tnt2 ultra > gf ddr > gf2 pro > gf3 ti200 > gf4 ti4200.

i cant wait to run games w/ all the fancy aa & other features.

BTW only a FX5900 with 256mb ddr is a TRUE 5950, cuz if it isnt then let me do the following

$180 Saphire 9800np->9800Pro BIOSflash->9800XT Speed>>>>>>>>>>>>your pityfull 5900nu->5950 LOL

Im not an idiot, but you cant say that by OCing your vid card and comparing it to a card thats not OC that yours is better. To be fair anyone who bought a 9800Pro can OC em to XT speeds and XT beat 5950s by a bit. So basically, don't you even DARE to compare an OCed/BiosFlashed videocard to one that isn't, thats just dumb.

Yea I'd say you got a good deal if those FX pos' couldn't run aa and af worth shit. I don't hate Nvidia, I don't love ATI either. I just know that the FX line is just crap compared to the Radeon line. I don't care how much cheaper it is, I wouldn't buy the highest end gfx card from a company that can't even get their highest end cards to run with full eye candy on and AA and AF. Freak that, I'd pay the extra 60 bucks just to know my AA and AF are gonna work without giving me horrible fps.

The Radeon line has a bit of improving to do as well, but not near as much as the FX line!

i upgraded from a geforce fx 5600nu to a 9700pro then i sold it on ebay for $250 and bought my self a built by ati radeon 9800pro and i love it. i do notice the 9800pro handles AA/AF a little better than the 9700pro... then i overclocked my 9800pro and im happy as ever! except on nfs:underground i run at 4xAA and 4xAF @ 1024x768 32, all detail on highest. I sometimes notice some frame drops kinda annoying cuz i have a pretty nice rig and still i get frame drops on this game

Did you notice a big difference going from the 9700pro to the 9800pro?

i think there's something wrong with the zbuffer information on that game, causing stutters with whatever card i use. my friends rig is ridiculously quick, he has essentially your system but o/c'd to 3.4 ghz, w/ sapphire 9800pro, and get hiccups here and there. i think its game related moreso than your rig, because every other bench, game, whatever works flawlessly at 1024 with everything turned up.... even halo.

Exactly! That is how I would describe the frame drops its like hiccups, its really annoying I did download the latest patch for the game I guess they still haven't addressed many issuse

Not really, not anything I can notice except for when i use max AA and AF the 9800pro performs better than my old 9700pro. Other than that I can't really notice anything but I only play these games.

1. Half-life ( Counter-strike )
2. Unreal Tournament 2003
3. Warcraft III
4. Silent Hill 3
5. Need for Speed: Underground

In these games I didn't notice much difference except for in UT2k3 a little better IQ and framerates. Basically 9800pro can handle max AA and AF at high res better than a 9700pro plus my clock speeds are way higher than a stock 9700pro or any overclocked 9700pro.

hey if umm my overclocking utility reports mem speed of 360Mhz DDR how much is that actually? I don't know the math is it divided by 2 (hence DDR)? soo reallity im running 720MHz

360Mhz DDR = 720Mhz

Videocard ram speed.

Well, I've listened to all the Pro's and Con's on both sides and I've finally made up my mind !
Anybody know where I can get a S3 Verge ???????????????
:)

do you realize that with that score on windows 98 if you got windows xp pro and tweaked it to all hell like I do with mine, you'd pwn that score by about 1 or 2 hundred points. At least in theory since windows xp has much better processing and memory utilization.

~Adam

Mikey you are right. The speed that it gives you is multiplied by 2 for total memory speed.
