Is a 9800 pro with 256 MB basically the same card as the 9800 XT
cause I heard that the Xt is just a pro card clocked higher with the 256 ram.

This shit is confusing everyone.

The 9800 XT was a new core. The R360 core. the 9800 pro (128 and 256) of the past generation were the R350 core and most still are.

Technical differences aside, the 9800 XT wasn't exactly just an "overclocked 9800 pro) it included other things, such as a thermal probe and overdrive.

There are however new 9800 pro 256mb models that are simply underclocked 9800 XT cores (the R360 core). These can be identified easily because the card design is identical to an XT.

Im pretty sure other then the thermal probe and overdrive(which is software i think) that the R360Core is the same as the R350 core, a good way to make sure is to have someone benchmark a 9800xt clocked at a 9800pro256 speeds vs that card, but otherwise the xt isnt worth the 200dollar price differnece u get liek 5% diff in some games

I generally agree. However it you want an XT but don't want to spend more than about $300, the 9800 Pro 256 (new model with the shiny HSF) is just an underclocked XT. You should be able to flash it pretty easily if you want to and have it running as an XT.

yea just put on a better cooler and some ramsinks, and you have an XT.
