9800 pro lacking?

Hey-

I just purchased a 9800 pro from newegg.com - it is the 256bit version- but I was rather surprised when my 3dmark01se score was only mid 16k

Is that about right? My geforce 4 ti 4600 got 12k-

I guess I just thought it'd be higher.

I mean i'm sure a 9800pro ain't gonna work to great with a PIII.

as for drivers.. i would say go with catalyst 4.4s not the 4.5

look at my system, im running everything in the sig and i get 16k on 2001se with omega 2.5.3's

Seems a little low to me. Are your AGP settings correct? 8x and 256MB aperture size ? Sometimes switching from nVidia to ATI takes some serious driver removal effort. I know I experienced that problem before. Hope this helps some.

Look at the frame rates in the games you play.

Hopefully you didn't buy a 9800 to play DX8.0 and DX7 games, which is what 2001SE tests for the most part.

No, I bought it to play far cry with some actual goodies...

Never the less, I down graded to the 4.4 catalyst drivers, and now my 3dmark01 score is 18,997

I just got done running 2k1, and with rolling back the drivers to 4.4, my score went up almost 2500 points. ( 16500 to 18997 )

installed 4.4's and still no go stuck at 16k, i think a format is in order maybe next week when i have time

Did you run driver cleaner? I've done both (driver cleaner vs. re-format) and didn't really notice a difference when I reformatted. Just throwin it out there.

Fastwrite is on. 8x

Im also running @ 2.4ghz with my barton so.... who knows.

If you use ATITool, you can get even higher. I got 18997 with 395core/345mem speeds.
