But then again, saving 200 bucks is kind of nice too.Michael Younger said:Half Life 2 is literally just weeks away from release - when people see The Source engine running on one of the new generation cards, it'll be game over.
There will be no turning back.
Don't buy a 9800 pro unless your CPU is on its last legs. Effectively, the 9800 pro is dead. Sure, it'll play the great games of today, but tomorrow is actually just two weeks away.
Within days of HL2's release, another Source title called Bloodlines will be released. And then the dominoes will begin to fall. This is an incredibly exciting time for gamers. We're seeing new engines and new graphics technology being released at the same time.
Personally, I would never buy a 9800 pro - just look at the benchmarks; those new cards just blow the 9800 out of the water.

Yup. the 9800 Pro will be a relevent card for the next few years, the same way a ti4600 was a relevent card for years, and is only just now not able to handle modern games.acascianelli said:id consider a 9800pro to be mainstream now. and the 9600 would be budget.

just becuase its not the greatest buy right now (6600GT comin out, and the 6800nu kicking its ass) @150-180, its a great buy, and if you already have one, its still a strong card
