i recently just got a built by ati 9800pro and i had the 3.2 cats so i updated to the 4.4's and now im getting weird checker board flashes across my screen when i play utk4 JO demo and BHD, i tried unistalling and going back to the 3.2's and 3.9's but im still getting this problem and i made sure the card was fully in the agp socket
 
Try using driver cleaner (google search) and make sure that you follow the read me text file step by step.

sounds like the new drivers re-clocked your card a bit, you can also have a bit of a heat problem as a result, try removing the side panel for an hour or so, and see if it clears it up.
