I have an AIW 9800 Pro for an HTPC. It's in an Antec Overture case. The card runs so hot that it heats up the whole case. I have 1 rear 120mm fan that blows in and 2 slot fan coolers that blow out of the case yet the case temp still sits at 45-50c. I'm obviously not overclocking the card but I get errors with ATI Tool after a few minutes. Will this hurt the card running so hot that it's getting errors at stock speeds? The RAM chips on it are so hot they'll burn your finger after a few seconds. All this when it's idle.
 
Eventually it will have some negative impact, yes.

Try reversing you 3 fans so that they are all opposite of what they were. Now you will have two intake fans and one fan blowing out.

It could improve you temps, in case it does not make sure to turn it off before things get too toasty.

I tried it in my case because I thought if my back output fans sucked air in from my window and the side fan blew air out it would cool stuff down. But that did not work.


I am gald I tried it though. Knowledge is power.
 
i dont think having an intake fan right under the psu outake is a good idea , try reversing it like the guy above me said :)
 
You might want to slap on a Silencer on it. It'll cool your card much better than the stock one and it will probably cost you about $15. The hot air from the heatsink will be blown directly out, helping your case temps. However, the card and ram will still be relatively warm but that's what your other fans are for.
 
A lot of the heat from AIW cards come from the tuner, and not the graphics accelerator itself; a VGA silencer might not help very much. I would try reversing the 120mm fan, and having all your fans exhaust. The case is hot inside, so you want to do everything you can to remove the hot air.
