9800 Pro Fan died

I just put my 9800 Pro back into my lan rig and the hsf doesnt spin anymore. Its a Sapphire 9800 Pro 128. Would it be safe to run it for a while without the fan spinning on there until I get a new cooler? The stock unit seems a little dinky and Im kinda worried about even having the thing turned on without the fan going.

Yes you should be worried. Don't run it without the fan please.

First make sure the fan is plugged in correctly to the power thingy that is on the CARD.
If it is plugged in and it is still not working get a replacement from somewhere.

I am sure some other users will list places to go where you can find a suitable replacement.

I would but I have to go to work.
 
Do not run without the fan. Even running with the stock cooler is almost a cause for warning. VGA Silencer is a minimum.
 
underclock it

clock at like 225 on the GPU and you should be okay for 2D work.

wouldnt use it for too long like that though.

I have like 10 of the stock heatsinks sitting around.

if you need one I will send it to you couldnt cost more than a couple bux to ship

Thats that lamers and losers do, get a heatsink / fan replacement or you'll damage the card, 15 usd hfs < 200 usd new card ;)

I figured he would need to use his comp between now and when he gets a replacement and for a couple days if he HAS to use his comp that's what I would still recomend.
 
How big is the back brace on a vga silencer, cuz I dont have much room in my SFF?

Oh, and I kinda need it running, so I took the case panels off and have it set in front of a big room fan :cool:
 
I don't think the ATI Silencer 1's backplate is too big. You'd have to look at the pics on newegg to see for yourself, but I think you'll be fine with it. I've got a 3 on mine, and I haven't looked back. Great cooler, my card OC'd like mad after I put it on. The stock HSF is garbage, considering how hot the 9800's run.

Hit "Korruption"'s link that he posted, that's the Silencer 1. You can see there's not much to the backplate. Slap it on you card and you're set.
