9800 Pro...Dead or alive?

Was putting a VGA Silencer Rev 3 on my new 9800 Pro last night (R360 too) and I fear I might have damaged it. I had a LOT of problems getting the stock HSF off (Did not know about pin trick till today). It runs now but messed up artifacts. I've read some previous threads but only seen the subject mentioned once or twice. I wanted to double check but I'm taking it that the verdict is dead card? I don't believe I scratched the core but I had a hell of a time getting that HSF off as mentioned above.

Once I had it off I cleaned the core with alcohol on a cue-tip. Then I applied AS5 with a x-acto knife. Should I have used something else to clean the core off? No alcohol? I've never had issues on processors in the past. Can't RMA either as the HSF is destroyed so I'm praying there is some saving grace here....

Anyone?
 
Just going to throw out a guess, but you may want to reseat the silencer. Just make sure it's on properly and you don't have spaces inbetween the heatsink and the card.

Artifacting sounds like it's just heating up very quickly.
 
yea i would try re seating it ... i have an extra 9800pro HSF i could send you if you wanted to go back to stock ...
 
Thanks for the replies folks. I've had it running all day while I'm at work in the hopes that the artifacts might go away (Wishful thinking I know...). Going to reseat the VGA Silencer and hope it works. No dmg should have happened further leaving it on all day like this?

If reseating fails I may have to RMA in which case...I just might need that stock HSF...
 
Well, letting it run all day, and if the cooler isn't on properly, *could* damage it. Definitely reseat it. May want to pick up atitool and run some tests. There's a button that runs a test for artifacting, that you can let it run all day.
