Yes, tap and die set are expesive, drill holes through is easier.

Well, I really didn't push OC on the 9800Pro that much. I play online FPS games 4 or 5 hours straight most of the time, with the sock HSF, whole card just got very warm even with a 92mm fan blowing on it.

With 1U HSF, I clocked once 435/375 just to run the 3Dmark3k, got 62xx, me happy. But everytime I restart, clock back to default, as all the games I play don't need OC to play smooth.

Well I went ahead and decided to buy a VGA silencer anyway. From all the pics I've seen I am pretty sure that it will clear my ramsinks.

I have also reconsidered the effect on airflow to the ramsinks. I surmise that since the heat from the GPU will be exhausted out of the case instead of being blown over the sides of my ramsinks, I may actually get a better memory overclock if the limiting chip is on the GPU side of the card.

Well, we'll see. I ordered it from SVC on Tuesday but haven't gotten a shipping confirmation yet. Has anyone here ordered from them before? Are they slow to ship?

Ive ordered from then over 10 times, if its a popular item, it will take them a day or two, did you take new years into account? ;)

Yes, but since I ordered it Tuesday morning I had hoped it would at least be shipped by Wednesday night.

Got confirmation of shipping yesterday afternoon. It turns out that they were closed on the 31st. So I hopefully should have it by Tuesday.

Well, got my VGA Silencer today. It's installed and aside from some install issues I am happy overall. Got an extra 5 MHz out of the core and an extra 5 MHz out of the memory (I'm guessing because the PCB and all components are cooler than before because of the more efficient heat removal.)

It's late now so I hope to do a better write up tomorrow.

for real, man thats a tad to much. just remeber to buy a bigger power supply to run all thos fans. and the ear muffs.lol j/k
enjoy it.

Those cooling kits look really cool but noise, price, size, and weight might be an issue.

He says the kits start at $77.

I'm not sure if I can fit my card into my case with all those fans dangling off of it :D

Actually the guy has been incredible thus far.

Just to clarify, the 'kits' are not just cooling, it's cooling + everything you need to do vMods, a full instruction manual that tells you blow by blow how to correctly vMod your card and tweak it to max performance

I have a 9800 NP with Infineon 3.0 ns RAM. I emailed him my specs, and he said he has never this particular card and he had been looking for one to experiment on. This is where I got lucky, he offered to do the labor for free (usually charges a very pretty penny for a send and return fully modded). I am paying $87 for the kit.

So I sent it in, he sent me back a full preliminary report, very professional, you guys can view it here. As you can see, I have an unusually weak card, both core and memory came back surprisingly low. I'm not really heartbroken, at this point its more of an adventure.

I should get the card back soon, I will do a full report on it then.

Edit: I forgot to mention one thing. Before I sent in the card, he got my full system specs and looked up all the numbers, he discovered there would be a clearance issue, and is custom cutting the parts to fit my system. Wow, talk about customer service

jmcmike, what 9800Pro do you have? What are your install issues? I plan to do the same thing with a 9800Pro when I get one next month.

I have a BBA 9800 Pro. You can read about the install issues here.

why get that when u can easily make ur own?

dual 92mm 48cfm each.

That's what I was thinking. But you could always go with Dual 92mm Sunon's that out 110+cfm each :)

They'll annoy the shit out of you though.

I could hear my 1 Sunon high speed fan / high cfm fan on the other side of the house. So I had to take it off and install my own custom hi/low switch (not gonna pay for Thermaltakes one).

What's funny about that guys mega card is I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. Hehe. I wonder what the overclock would be if you had a watercooling block to the core, with all those fans on the memory + a fan positioned over the waterblock with extra heatsinks glued on (for some extra cooling goodness).

I've heard that people have rigged up systems to do Phase-Cooling on the card, but can't find any links. Anybody know of any?
