9800 Pro Big Problems HELP!!!

So after i took out my evercool Wc system and put the stock cooler back onto my Radeon 9800 pro. After a while maybe 25 minutes little spots and lines and marks start appearing on the screen untill it gets covered with these lines and dots. I dont know what happened. Its not overclocked at all and is stock.

Ill take a screen shot once it happens but right now there is nothing on the screen so i am posting this.

If i shut down and give it time i can start it up again and get about another 25 minutes out tof it.


You guys have any ideas what it could be. I dont know what the heck happened and i cant RMA it anymore cause the 1 year has expired.

Any Ideas and All help is Appreciated.

sounds like you have it overclocked, and didnt remove the over clock, after you took the water cooling off, so its getting to hot, and messing up, happened to me before

yeah i used artic silver 5 and i have the case off with a 120 blowing right into it. to make sure its not heat


and no its not overclocked cause i have ati tool and if anything i think it might be underclocked. Its running at 378 and 335

and when i scan for artifacts it will go for a little bit and then all those things start showing up all over the screen

Tried after it wnt crazy and with all the lines and dots and it didnt really help, but ill try it from the start I Dont think it is heat either.

I Took some screen shots of it all jacked up but it is hard to read what i am typing so i will post them when i give it more time to settle or whatever you want to call it.

it's dead ..lol...try it in anotehr system..but I am sure it's dead if it wont run goood @ stock speeds...

double check to make sure you really put the stock heatsink on correctly, sometimes those little push pins can be bastards. Also check that you didnt get AS5 anywhere besides the GPU core, remember that its conductive

i was going to say the same thing.. you should clean the gpu core and re-apply some AS5.

ok i re applied with AS 5 and still no luck. I dont even have like 30 minutes before it happens anymore it happens like 2 minutes after i get to my desktop.

One Question, can i clean the green part around the core with alchohol? if maybe there is any on there although i cleaned it as much as i could without alchohol with Q tips.

is there any way you guys know of on how to return this. I got it from comp usa because it was cheaper than newegg but i was wondering if you guys had any tricks up your sleeve that you could tell me that i could convince compusa in letting me return it.

well if ur gona be dishonest about it (which i am neather promoting or bashing in this case) you might as well just buy a new one from comp... put old in news box... then just return it... they still sell the 9800 pro's... its the only sure fire way i know to get it "Returned"

if you have a problem with that just take it up there tell them the situation (not about u modding it, just about how it randomly started acting up... dont include any details about water or OC) and they might take pitty and say they will trade in for new one but you HAVE TO buy their replacment plan along with it..

Sounds like you reseated the hsf on it incorectly, reseat it and you might not have a messed up card.
