Should I use AS3 between the VGA silencer and my 9800 Pro thats coming? If so, like a CPU or a little thicker?

Im not sure about how to do it--- not that it makes a diff

But I would use cermaque becuase AS3 is somewhat conductive

I also know you need a large glob because their will be a gap between the core and the HSF

With GPUs, you need to use a MUCH thicker application than with a CPU.

After installing everything, I'd remove everything just to check that the entire base of the heatsink got coated with thermal compound, and then reinstall it.

Thanks, I didnt know how much clearance I would have, why AS3? Because I have some AS3, thats why. If I've got a tube of something that will work perfectly fine I'm going to use that. Thanks for the help.

If you dont remove the shim, you'll get worse cooling then if you'd have stuck with the stock cooler. At least the stock cooler is bevelled to make contact with the core...

dude no thats 9700/9500's that were like that they fixed it in the 9800's

The shim on my Hercules 9800pro wasn't in the way, so I left it on. Took me 2 tries though with my AS3 to get the right amount on the GPU die.
