I'm considering getting one of these cards but I'm UBER worried about the heat. How hot do these cards get? Would I need a full tower case to keep it cool?

Also, how does 1x gx2 compare to 2x 8800 gtx? Thx in advance.

I'm in a 12m x 15m university residence with my GX2. Lets just say there's no way in hell that I can game without the window wide open. For comparison, I had an 8800GT and its almost double the amount of heat just sitting there idle.

However, in comparison to 2 GTX, it should be slightly less because there was a transistor shrink and there is less memory.

You mean heat generation or power consumption ? Or both ?

Either way, the GX2 does not generate much more heat than 2 8800 GT in SLI (which get a bit hotter than two 8800 GTX, mainly due to the cooling solution), nor does it consume much more power than the same 8800 GT SLI setup (which consumes less power than 2 8800 GTX):

Yea thats what I thought... I have to open the side of my case to play COD4 on my 2x 8800 gtx.. But all other games though, the cards don't get nearly as hot and I don't need to do that.

I was lookin to move to a single card if it's comparible to the preformance of my 8800 gtx SLI and I wouldn't have to open up my case everytime I game COD4. I REALLY like my case and I spent good money for it
(300+), so I really dont want to upgrade that.

Going to a GX2 wouldn't be much of an upgrade, in terms of performance, from a 8800 GTX SLI setup. It does have more features, that the 8800 GTXs lack, but still, I don't think you need anything other than better cooling for your system.
