Im thinking about getting the 9700Pro for 170

2.3Ghz Xp 512 3200 dual channel 480wat thermal/fans/sink
5 fan case

9700pro is a great card. but for only like 20 bucks more you can go with a 9800 pro, which is an even better card. thats what i'd do.

Overclocking/softmod? I have an AIW 9700 Pro, and it does fine. As do many other peoples 9700 Pro's. Doom 3 may rape some overclocked cards tho, and softmodded cards too I would imagine.

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro on one of my systems and it runs fine. I currently on that PC run DOOM III at 1024x768 on HIGH with 2x AA. I would think the 9700 Pro would be a great choice if you didn't want to shell out $600 for a top notch card. However, the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is even better and if you have some extra money get the 9800 Pro.
