9700pro: Random crashes

Hi,

To make a long story short, almost all games I try to play, the end result is a crash. I can play for a few minutes then BAM, the game will close and I will go back to the desktop or the computer will restart itself. I didn't get a VPU error so I'm not sure where to start diagnosing(sp?) So I figure to start on the card itself then move onto the drivers.

On the card, I re-installed the zalman cooler with a fresh thermal paste. Also, the shim was removed for better contact. So I'm very sure it's not a overheating problem. While the zalman cooler was off, I checked to see if the core is still intact. I removed the shim so there could be a chance that the core could be cracked. I didn't see any problems with it. So I'm taking out the video card as the problem.

So the only places I can look are drivers. I'm using the Catayalst 4.7 drivers. Using Direct X 9.0B. Updated the AGP drivers on the motherboard. I don't know what else to update...

After all that, I'm at a stump. Anybody got any ideas, suggestions, comments or anything that can be helpful?

Hi,

OMG! After pondering about other solutions for several hours in my thinking chair, I decided to underclock my CPU back to stock. So from 2.88ghz down to 2.4ghz. With that done, Call of Duty works now. This is not good. GRR!!! Off to test other games...

I thought VPU meant visual processing unit because they have VPU recover
...does that mean you want him to turn off his card?

Talk of an easy solution :)
