will the 9700pro be able to run half life 2 or would it be better to get a 9600xt? I heard that the 9700pro runs circles around the 9600xt but since it is older technology will it be able to run the newest games? Thanks for any replies

never mind. i just bought a 9800pro from gateway for $190.
that was probably a bad idea.. oems tend to neuter their high end gfx cards for some reason

and yeah, the 9700 will rape the 9600 pretty much everywhere, even though it is like a year older. Just because the card is newer, doesnt neccessarily mean its better. Ti4200 vs fx5200 for example.

Your giving the 5200 too much credit. my gf3 ti200 gives the ultra version a damn good run in dx8.1 .

Kinda like how the Radeon 8500 is still better than all sub-9500 cards (excluding the 9100, which is really just a rebranded 8500).

The whole OEM's neutering their graphics card is more of thing from the past. Now days, it's pretty rare to have an OEM do that.
