If you had your choice of a 9700 Pro or a 9600XT at practically the same price, which would you choose?

The 9700 Pro I am sure may be faster but, it's using an older core than the 9600XT right?

Is there anything new in the 9600XT core that would make make much difference in features or support in newer games?

I'm leaning towards the 9700 Pro since it's a 8 pipeline card but, the 9600XT has much higher core and memory speeds though.

Decisions decisions

Ok, thanks. So a 9700 Pro running at lower speeds than the 9600XT, the 9700 Pro still wins?

I mean the 9700 pro core is like 325/620 and the 9600XT is running at 500/600.

Is a 325mhz 9700 core faster than a 500mhz 9600Xt core? Because of the pipeline difference?

.The actual clockspeed doesn't matter, its primarily the core and the memory bandwith, but of course you can always overclock ;) .

Ok, thanks for the info and opinions. Looks like I will go for the 9700 Pro then.

There are lots of threads on this. The 9600XT isn't even a crippled 9700 like the 9500 was. It's a crippled new design when compared to 9700/9800s

I dont think it fair to call the 9600 crippled, just main stream. For the same price go with the 9700. Twice the pixel pipes means it can go slower but still be faster.

yea i wouldn't say it's a crippled core either, it's a totally different design for the mainstream market, but yea i would go with the 9700 pro too because not much of a price difference and it's alot faster

9700pro=256bit and 8 pixel pipelines
9600xt=128bit and 4 pixel pipelines
you do the math:)

The 9600 isn't crippled, it was BORN retarded.
9500 series on the other hand, was born a 9700 but crippled later.

Yea, went with the 9700 Pro. Works great. I just have to press reset when I first power up as it won't initialize when first powering it up. I get a signal, then it goes dead and 1 long, 2 short beeps. Press reset and boots up and runs fine. I think it's something the MB don't like because it did this on a GF2 GTS I had but the GF4 I had worked fine and now it's back on the 9700 Pro. Wierd.

Card works fine though and runs SWG great.

Again, thanks all for info. Kinda what I figured but wanted to make sure.
