I've had my 9700 pro for about 6 months now. The past few weeks, I haven't had too much time for games, but when i've played, things have been ok (except for crashes in d3 which were fixed with the 4.9beta's). Anyway, I installed a wireless card in my system last week, and that nite, i started getting artifacting in windows. I would open a firefox, and the screen would go fuzzy, with lines through everything. I haven't had time to check if games are affected, so i can't be sure. I'm hoping its my psu, as its 300w and I'm running an athlon xp, two hard drives, the video card, a dvd burner and a sound card, along with my modem and various usb connections. Could it be dying though? Is this a common problem with 9700's? Anything I should check before I upgrade to a new psu?

9700 pro, artifacts in windows

Er, I have an engineering sample ATi 9700 pro that I just replaced with an X800 pro because it had these damned intermitent pink verticle lines crawling on my screen.
It only was a now and then thing for a while, then it was always, then it was BAD! I tried to find every other explaination possible, but it the end I was forced to deal with the truth; my card simply died.
I'd had it a couple of years and had it OCed pretty hard (380/360, up to 425/380 for screwing around) and before me Terry Makedon had used it for a good long while testing drivers on it...so I figured it was pretty reasonable the thing finally went tits up and just bit the bullet and replaced it. (I still got it, way too much sentimental value! )
I don't get how a 6 month old card should be dying though....were you overclocking?

no, no overclocking, which makes it all the more odd. Ordering a new PSU now. Will see if that stops the issues.
