So it seems Jen-Hsun Huang over at nVidia has revealed via blog that the extra ram above 3GB on the GTX970 (including the last .5gb) if a 'feature' that if not included would have limited the GTX 970 to a 3gb card....

So the real question becomes.... How does the new GTX 750ti 4GB utilize its last GB of ram that would otherwise be impossible on a GTX 970?

Does the 750ti have the same issues? Does this make a future GTX 960 4GB impossible? Or is it just a bunch of crock?

Interested in real benchmarks, reviews or information on the 750ti 4GB.

The 750ti has a completely different memory subsystem from the 970... they're not even directly comparable.

The 970 will outperform the 750ti every time. Because it has power where it counts: the GPU core. It doesn't matter that you can only fill 3.5gb on the 970. The 970 is just a vastly more powerful card.

it isn't the amount that's the issue, it's the configuration of the memory controller.

The 4GB 750Ti cards are using their full 128-bit memory bus, they've just got bigger GDDR5 chips onboard.

Eventually we'll see the same for 960s.

The 970 was using a slightly cut-down memory bus, and used some hackery to still access all 4GB of memory. That hackery was the issue. There's nothing magic about the amount being used.

If you're running 1920x1080 rez, you'll never have an issue with GTX970, it's still the best card to get.

You'll only approach that 3.5GB+ issue if you're running 2560x1440 or higher and start cranking your anti aliasing

Most folks aren't aware of how awesome 2560x1440 or 3440x1440 is and are still using 1920x1080, so 970 is great for them, no issue

the 970 is fine even at 1440p

you have to crank it up to 4k and unplayable textures and AA where you're already barely hovering around 20fps before you start to get hanging frame times.

maybe if you are multi gpu and multi monitor gaming. extreme edge case scenarios.
