i havent seen any comparison charts between the 2. (both 128meg versions)

is the 9800pro a whole lot better.. enough to justify an extra $60?

I think digital-something? has a big ass chart. that or check hardocp.

Here's the Digital-daily link.
It's not EXACTLY the comparison you asked for, since the 9800 pro used in this comparison is the 256 MB version, but for today's games and apps, the 128 MB is actually marginally faster, so it really doesn't matter which is used.

As you can see, 9800 pro is Mike Tyson and 9600 XT is Pete McNeely (sp?), but it's your call as to whether the difference is worth $60.

Most 9600XTs cost around $160 the last time I checked. If you look around, you can find a used 9700/9800 for that.

yea big difference you dont need to see numbers for that other then these ones

9800pro 8x1 @ 380mhz = 8x380 = 3040mp/sec
256bit memory also
9600XT 4x1@500mhz = 2000mp/sec
so there ug o 1000less mp/sec and less then half the memory bandwidth

yes, huge difference between 9800p and 9600xt. You may be able to run some games with the 9600xt as you can the 9800p, but you won't have near the framerate, aa or af settings the 9800p can.

The only reason I can see justifying a 9600xt now is because one of two things...a you're poor and just can't afford the extra $60 for a 9800pro...b, your current card died and you're really wanting a r420/nv40 so just want something to "hold over" until they hit the market...in which case there are cheaper cards to hold you over.
