9600XT to 9800Pro

If I go from my 9600XT to the 9800Pro I ordered yesterday, will I need to use a driver cleaner and delete my current drivers and install the newst ones from ATi? Or can I just keep the same drivers just swap the cards?
 
you should be able to just swap the cards.

Since you're going from ATI to ATI, and they have a single driver package for all their cards, the worst thing you'll have to do is just re-install over the old drivers which won't hurt anything.

btw...the Omega 4.9's are out and they seem pretty good :D (at least for the games I play)

i for got to do this a few times with my 9600XT >.< f's up all kinds of thigns and is a pain in the ass to fix
 
How do the omegas compare/differ to the catalyst set of drivers?
 
You can just swap the card, no need to uninstall or use different drivers... just load the latest drivers...
 
going from 9600xt to 9800pro... doesn't seem like a big enough jump in performance to justify $200.. did ur card die?

You should of gotten those 12 pipe or 16 pipe cards. Your going to see some changes but not enough to justify the cost.
 
I sold my 9600XT to a friend who really needed a better graphics card and went ahead and spend another 100$ to order the 9800Pro off the egg.
 
Your still not going to see that much of a difference. You might bump a resolution and use 4xaa instead 2x.

Not really worth it when these new cards are out. You could get a 6800 for $230-260 which is much of a bigger jump.

6800 has most of the issues resolved with 5800 and 5900 series. Also better AA, better aniso, better doom etc etc.
 
I don't remember seeing the 6800NU around 230$... The cheapest I saw them at was 274$ on the egg where I order everything from. Also you say the 9600XT to 9800Pro isn't that big of a jump, but when I viewed a lot of charts comparing all the ATi and NVidia cards, the 9800Pro scored quite a bit higher than the 9600XT's.

I think the 9800pro usually preforms around 50% better than the 9600XT.

According to reviews I've seen if you get like 35fps in a game like Halo with the 9600XT than you'd probably get like 50fps with the 9800pro (it's quite a jump, but does it justify spending $200 when, for just a few $ more you can get a card that would probably get 80fps with the same (if not better) settings?).
 
how do the omega 4.9 drivers compare to the ati 4.9? has anyone compared them and seen performance gain?
