I have a 9600xt by Powercolor I bought in november. I want to top this card out and see what it's made of. Every mod and overclock possible is fair game. Right now stock cooling I can punchout like 570 core 380 memory. No lockups or anything. This is with 5.3 cats and ATI tool. Looking to push it higher or is this already pretty high? What are you guys getting?

My 3DMark05 9600 XT OC figures.

User-----------------Score----OC----------Driver
joethemole--------1,873----500/340----5.3
Deadly sk1llz----1,766----553/350----4.9
Sheldog23--------1,759----570/320
ray4389------------1,723----570/310
thenerd-------------1,688----527/340
furie27--------------1,570----500/297
Talonz--------------1,513----536/300
mc_P---------------1,491----582/360

I would say ur overclock is already badass hehe but if ya want higher, I would get an after market cooler :)

phase change it....hey you said every mod...

personally...if i had the cash and i wanted to oc a 9600xt id phase change it, watercool the ram (with a custom block), and volt mod it

I figure that if I am spending that money on something it might as well be for my x800xt. Basically I want to go as far as possible on air. But I am pleased to find out I am pretty far as is. =) Maybe I don't need more. I 3d mark at 2k or 2.4k I don't remember.

my passively cooled 9600pro is catching up to you guys :p

460/320, Cat 5.3's, 3dmark05 = 1751

My 9600 pro with ramsinks and Vantec HSF hits 480 core and 320-ish ram. RAM gets very pissy if overclocked to much, Much more then 20 and it starts puking all over the screen...Like a telletuby bukkake on my monitor.

I rarely get artifacts. I usually freeze. Give me some voltmods lets limit break this sucker.

What kind of temps do you guys get, I get like 38 idle and 51 or 52 load. All I can get is to turn on overdrive (513/300), and it doesn't run at full speed most of the time. I kinda got a dud i guess...

Hey, i used to own a 9600xt. Mine went to 530 core 400 mem :) . But i guess i was kinda cheating because mine came stock 500 core and 350 mem. It had 2.5ns BGA ram.
Very nippy little card for when i had it.

That isn't that great of an OC. Overdrive, a warrantied feature offered by ATI, automatically clocks the card to 527mhz on the core; so really, you're only "truely" overclocking your card's core my 3mhz. Your mem's a bit more impressive, but don't forget that you're card is using a crippled memory interface.

BTW, OC'ing a 9600XT is a waste of time IMO. I had my core at 560mhz on air a while ago but I noticed absolutely no performance difference in games (so I set back it to overdrive just because I don't want to needlessly shorten my card's life). The 9600XT uses the old 4 pipeline cores so, to put it in perspective, overclocking your 9600XT's core by 100mhz raises the fillrate no more than overclocking a 6800GT or X800XT 25mhz (which is crappy). It's a similar case with the memory b/c the 9600XT uses a 128bit wide memory interface that cuts performance gained from o'cing substancially.

I wouldn't say that. OC'ing my 9600Pro from 400/300 to 460/320 got me 7 more frames per second in the CS:S stress test.

I had a sapphire 128mb version of the 9600 pro with crappy entech memory. Bone stock and with a later added Iceberg 4 gpu cooler the max stable gpu OC i could push was 465. I later did a lot of searching on google and randomly testing points on my card to prepare for a volt mod. The pro version anyway is stock vgpu at 1.3v and the max I ended up with was 1.65. I was able to finish 3dmark03/05 at 600!...If i remember correctly the 05 score was near 2k. For everyday use I backed down to 585. I later then soldered fdd pins on the card like a 9800 board, but it didn't make any difference as far as I could tell. From what I've heard from others and I guess I dont know exactly why, but the best way to OC a 9600 is to either strech the gpu and or memory alone to their maxes or put them both midway. Sounds like a power problem and If my memory was worth anything maybe the fdd adapter would have helped pushing the gpu and mem. 9600xt still isn't a bad card, but the price to push her might be worth it in fun :)
