been lookin at upgrading to a new board
was lookin at around 100 tops!
seen the 9600 thought that looked ok, but then seen the fx5700
looks very nice, what would you guys suggest

If you play mainly older games I>E not PS2 then i would go the 5700U.But if you want to also have good PS2 performance then i would go the 9600XT.

Tyan Tachyon Radeon G9600PRO 8xAGP 128MB DDR VGA/DVI/S-Video/Hardware Monitoring Retail Box

looking at the prices, its a extra £10 for a 9600XT
and another £20 for a 9600 Pro

just how much difference is between these 3 cards?
i like the support of dual monitor on the first card, do the other cards support this also if you know?

and anyone have links to some good review sites that might be helpfull to help me decide which to pick?

thanks in advance

I'd say go with the 9600XT. If you want comparisons, check out Hardocp's FX5700 review, they have it compared to a 9600XT, and the XT pulls out in front. ATi has much more potential for overclocking as well.

after your comments i looked for 9600xt models
found 2 different makes
was wondering is they much difference between the different models or are they basicly just the same?

Sapphire Radeon 128MB 9600XT DDR DVI-i TV-Out Lite Retail Box (£102.25 inc VAT)
or
Connect3d ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB DVI TV-Out Retail Box (£93.88 inc VAT)

nearly £10 cheaper for the Connect3d ATI Radeon

which would u suggest? and whats the difference?

from what benchmarks i have seen, the sapphire looks abit quicker
but hows ATI with their driver updates though? heard alot of people have problems with ati drivers

well, those are brands that make the card. ATi sells them their chips, and they put together the boards. I wouldn't reccomend Connect3D, for tech support and they just arent a very solid company to the enthousiast. Go with sapphire, they are very reliable. Also, look into a 256mb version of the 9600xt... it would be better.
Good luck!

I've never had a problem with ATi drivers, however a friend of mine with a fairly weak computer has tons of problems with his 9600pro 256Mb card. Mostly related to fastwrite being set to on when updating drivers and various games running horribly slow. I guess it depends on the rest of your computer somehow, as he's got the cheapest of everything (PSU, mobo etc)

thanks everyone for the info, placing my order now :D
Sapphire Radeon 128MB 9600XT DDR DVI-i TV-Out Lite Retail Box
£102.25 inc VAT

Now just need to wait for the rest of the toys to arrive :)

well if you got that limit, then go with the 9600xt 128mb... best performance for price, and do choose the sapphire.

9600xt, i would rather have the 5700 ultra but thats not an option for you.

Good choice. A 5700 can't touch a 9600XT unless it's a 5700U. Even then the XT is usually a little quicker. Not a whole ton though, so I'd go for one if it was a good bit (maybe $30) cheaper. My local Besy Buy's been selling 5700U's for $120, though they've been sold out since the first time I saw that deal. XTs are more like $150 online. NV's even starting to get thier pricing right.

hhmm, dual monitor support....
gggrrrrrr
why is building a new machine allways so damn difficult to choose bits for :(

tight call, got me thinkin again, the more reviews i read the harder the choice gets, :(

the 5700 i was lookin at wasn't a ultra, the ultra's also cost abit more
even though i would of liked dual monitors, guess i just have to go without :(

Sapphire Radeon 128MB 9600XT DDR DVI-i TV-Out Lite Retail Box
also went for the 128mb version, heard they use old memory in the 256mb versions
