ok here's the deal..
Should I get a 9600Xt with 256MB or a 9800 (Pro or not) 128 they are about the same price about $30 difference not that much. I know current games don't use the extra memory but I was looking for something to make HL2 run nicely. Which should actually put that extra memory into use.
i am guessing that the winner willbe the 9800, any brand suggestions?
Also the 9600s run off of 4xAPG and 9800s run 8x AGP right? is that why the 9600's speeds are better then the 9800's? Thats the only thing that I think of.
Thanks for the advice!

Sapphire 9800 Pro is the way to go. Get the one off NewEgg. It's currently the best bang for the buck for a good high end card.

9800 Pro kills the 9600xt :D
And so far me and my friends who have got the Sapphire 9800 Pro off NewEgg have all been able to o/c them to 9800xt speeds no problem with stock cooling.

I'd wait a couple weeks if you can. Annoucements for next gen cores (R420/NV4X) should drop the prices a bit.

Also, the difference between a Retail and OEM/White Box... retail will have full software bundle, cables and manual, OEM/White Box won't (might have cables at best). Warranty is generally longer on a retail than a OEM/White Box card as well.

To be honest the OEM from newegg comes in bubble wrap and is very well wrapped in it ;)
And it includes everything :D
All the CD's and cables and DVI adapter.
So who needs a box???

someone who displays the box...

It's only a $9 difference. Since its off NewEgg, you will get all the necessary cables from either the retail or OEM/Bulk version.

So it's up to you if you want to spend an extra $9 on the pretty outside box and a few software titles to go along. If you're wondering what the software is, they are; PowerDVD 5, Sapphire Redline (IMO, some useless OC'ing tool for the card), Sapphire's video drivers (It's better to get the drivers off ATI), and Tomb Raider - Angel of Darkness (Which I haven't even touch).

So the question is the $9 worth shelling out for the softwares I just mentioned?

Either way, the 9800 pro ROCKS!!!

Well, I'm not really going to try to display the box. But that overclocking program sounds nice to me. Maybe I'll go with the box. for an extra $9 I will get that to overclock it to speed that of the XT!!!!
w00t!!

You can overclock without spending an extra 9 dollars... You probably won't even end up using the included overclocking tool anyway.

But hey, it's 9 dollars, who cares? I'd get retail.

LOL, well it's your money so do what you want with it. To let you know, the OC'ing tool that comes with it is useless IMO (and probably many others). You can download better utilities to OC your card. For instance, you can download this nice OC'ing utility called Radlinker or even one made from one of our forum members w1zzard(sp?). I apologize if I misspelled your named! I think it's called ATITool or something? Sorry I haven't used it because I haven't tried to OC my card yet.

Again, its your money do what you like with it and enjoy your new video card. :D
