Hey all,

I'm prepping my 9600xt for putting an ATi Silencer 2 on it tomorrow and I got the stock HSF without damaging the card, but it seems ATi uses an adhesive type of pad instead of a normal thermal pad.

There is a few spots on the core that has this gooey crap on it and I can't get it off with alcohol.

Any ideas?

worthless, don't do it.
It will still be alot slower than 8 pipe card.
Save your pennies for a 6600GT or higher:)

Excuse me. I didn't ask for a new card, I asked how to get the adhesive off of my card.

The card works perfect. I just want the ATi Silencer to blow the heat out the back because it will be in my Aria case.

You can try acetone (aka nail polish remover). Just make sure you have some good ventilation, that stuff is stinky.

You might try warming it with a hair dryer to soften it up, then scraping it off.

So I gave it to my dad, and was like alcohol won't take it off, know of anything that will that won't eat the core?

He's like let me see, and goes in the basement, uses brake parts cleaner (aka a degreaser  ) which I didn't see and gave me quite the heart attack, but it worked.

We'll see if it still works later, if not, good reason to get a new card!
