I recently bought a Gexcube Radeon 9600 XT Extreme and after around 2 months of using it, i noticed that it started crashing my games. I eventually figured out that the fan on the video card had slowed down. It seemed that dust had gotten the best of it.
Now the fan doesnt even spin on startup, and the comp wont load with the video card in anymore. And so i was curious if a fan stalled on the video card, would that prevent the whole system from loading? a failsafe? or would it be that the card got overheated and killed itself?
Now I dont have the receipt of where i purchased it from. So I'm not exactly sure how to proceed. I was considering replacing the stock heatsink and fan, but that would void my warranty, and i want to try and avoid something like that just in case that my card has died on me, and it isnt just the fan that is the problem.
If worse comes to worse, does anyone know how much ATI would charge to repair a card of that nature - if it is just the fan that is playing up?
