So right now I'm at a pretty low-end 1.6GHz Duron with a 64mb GeForce 4MX. Looking to drop another $400 or so into the 'puter to make it relatively current.

So once I'm done, I will have AXP3200, a 256MB Radeon 9600XT, and 1gb RAM. I'm hoping that GPU will not be a bottleneck; should I go for a 128MB Radeon 9800 instead? The 256mb 9800 is way out of my price range, so those are the options I have.

Well, I'm just asking whether I would notice a difference between a 9600XT and a 9800. I've been an nVidia user until now but would like to try something different. I haven't really been following so I don't know how long ago the 9600 came out.

the 9800 is ALOT faster than a 9600XT, so is the 9700. And a 2500+ or 2600 is a much better deal than the 3200+.

^^ agreed, that is if your talking about the 2500+ or 2600+ mobile

miazmaticdotcom, are you an overclocker?

I can overclock if neccesary. I am going to be getting the Zalman Socket A Copper cooler, so OCing is definitely an option.

So it seems a Radeon 9700 and a 2600mobile are the best option?

I just noticed the AMD Sempron line. A rebranded AXP at a lower price sounds like a nice idea too, but they use more power than the mobile Athlons, right?
